Oh that. You mean how I murdered dozens of respectable (albeit boring) human beings for no reason? Don't lose sleep over it.
~ Rhea Wits

Rhea Wits is the main antagonist of Turnabout Substitution. Appearing as Apollo's assistant who wanted to find the truth behind her brother's death by helping defend Judge Chambers, she in reality is a sadistic Social Darwinist who murdered dozens of innocent lives including her own brothers out of her ideals. She is responsible for Robert Erlenmeyer's false confession and the serial killing victims and is the culprit behind Judge Chambers' murder in the cemetery.

What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]

  • She's a bonafide Social Darwinist who has a god complex in the idea that she should kill others if they lived unfulfilling lives, feeling a sense of superiority and triumph when she kills them off. As a result, she became the Mysterious Bust Killer.
  • Defiles her victims' dignity by posting photos of their naked bodies along with music sheets signed with Charles Darwin on them after dragging them away from the place they were attacked.
  • Murdered at least 11 people in the cemetery and buried their bodies in other people's graves so no one could find them.
  • When Robert Erlenmeyer saw her bury one of her victims, she attempted to kill him only to discover him experiencing a traumatic reaction over his past. Taking advantage of his trauma, she decided to tell him details about her murders so he could confess to being the culprit to the police, making him a scapegoat.
  • Taking advantage of Erlenmeyer's false confession, she murdered her own brother Nathan Wits so she could play as the sympathetic victim and convict Erlenmeyer for the crime. Her act and the evidence was so convincing, Judge Chambers, Paul Strings, and Jesicca Poole all conspired in a plan to forge evidence in order to give Erlenmeyer the death penalty but failed when they were caught.
  • Rhea Wits "befriended" Judge Chambers" as a fellow relative to the victim of the Mysterious Bust Killings in order to make her act more convincing in spite of it being a hollow lie.
  • Attempted to tie up loose ends by murdering Erlenmeyer in the asylum, only to fail as his brother and Chief Paul Strings already plotted to break him out by faking his murder.
  • "Befriended" Apollo Justice and quickly manipulated him into allowing her to help him so she could fish for information on Erlenmeyer's "murder" so she can find out how she can tie up her loose ends. She's willing to do anything for information, even risking Apollo's arrest as long as she's one step closer to figuring out the truth behind Erlenmeyer's "murder".
  • Is fully aware of the atrocities she committed and uses it to antagonize Erlenmeyer in front of everyone else to make others believe she has a higher moral standard when she in fact has zero.
  • When she figured out that Erlenmeyer's murder was a lie, she sneaked out of Apollo's office so she could have her second shot at killing Erlenmeyer with the same MO, only to fail as Judge Chambers was there to visit his brother Arthur Chamber, who was also one of her victims. As a result, she murdered Judge Chambers instead and planned on pinning it on Erlenmeyer.
  • She attempted to pressure Apollo Justice to not take the case due to the defendant being Robert Erlenmeyer. She tried to guilt trip him and tried storming off when her attempts failed in hopes he'd feel bad about taking the case.
  • When storming off failed, Rhea Wits decided to cut her losses and revert back to her nice persona so Apollo wouldn't think much of her actions. When Rhea Wits slips up in the courtroom, she attempted to use her manipulative tactics on Apollo again, when Apollo figures her out she quietly taunts him saying that he'd never catch her as she keeps her facade to everyone in the courtroom as she turns traitor to the attorney.
  • Psychologically torments Apollo by confessing to everything she did, including her ideals so she can sabotage his time to think about his next plan to catch Rhea. To rub salt in the wound, she tells the Judge that Apollo had enough time to think and rigs the trial to create a temporary system where Apollo is placed on a timer to present his arguments.
  • When Rhea was caught, she felt no remorse for her crimes, believing she lived her life to the fullest, only to become insane over her fate when Apollo tells her that her actions only served to make her completely hollow and empty and that no one would remember her due to her blunders and her role in society.
  • While she looks at a picture of Apollo inside the prison, she was already considering murdering him when she confessed her crime to him in the lobby. She also looks at him with contempt and anger over her defeat and is completely disheveled as Apollo's words struck a hard chord with her, fully realizing she's a complete hollow failure in spite of what she initially believed.

Trivia[]

  • She is chronologically the first villain to be Pure Evil in the Ace Attorney Fancase scheme, with Turnabout Substitution being released in 2008, the earliest fancase of the franchise.
