Captain America. At last. What delicious irony...that you should return here, helpless, to witness my triumph! All you cherished, all you defended is now mine! Yes! America belongs to the Red Skull! What do you say to that?
~ Red Skull meeting Captain America for the first time since World War II.

Johann Shmidt, best known as Red Skull, is the main antagonist of Issues 17-20 in Volume 4 of Captain America, titled "Cap Lives". Likely sharing the same history as his Earth-616 counterpart before Captain America's disappearance, this Red Skull became the undisputed ruler of Earth after winning World War II, and he now seeks to conquer all of time and space.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • As the Reichsführer, he won World War 2 and then took over the world for the Nazis, committing a global genocide against all non-Aryans while subjugating others under a dystopian regime with factories and concentration camps. He also nuked Detroit.
  • He threatens to have Captain America raped repeatedly to produce an army of supermen if he doesn't swear public allegiance to the Reich, before experimenting on his body to research the Super Soldier Serum and then hang him in Times Square.
    • On the other hand, Red Skull also promises that if Cap does swear allegiance, he can have anything he wants, whether it's women, the entire state of California, or even "boys in costumes", which clearly means child prostitutes.
  • He orders one of his own men to kill himself for failing to apprehend Cap.
  • He tries to publicly hang Peter Parker in front of his aunt and uncle.
    • When that fails, Red Skull reveals that he hid a bomb under Peter's shirt in case of a rescue, and then detonates it to destroy his getaway vehicle, killing Peter along with Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm.
  • He forces Cap's surrender by threatening to have his men shoot hundreds of civilians.
  • He plans to repeat his global conquest with the Reich across all of time and space.
