Raymond "Ray" Marcus is the main antagonist of the 1993 novel Tony and Susan and its 2016 film adaptation Nocturnal Animals. He is the villain of protagonist Edward Morrow's novel, in which he is portrayed as a sadistic gang leader who rapes and murders the main character's wife and daughter.
He was portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He leads a gang of thugs who rob, rape, and murder people.
- By his own admission, he kills people for fun.
- He and his gang crash into Tony's car and kidnap his wife, Laura, and teenage daughter, India.
- He orders one of his men, Lou, to kill Tony.
- He rapes both Laura and India.
- He strangles them both to death.
- He leaves their bodies lying naked in a dirty shack in order to humiliate them and Tony.
- In addition to killing Tony's family, Ray leaves him suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
- Years later, upon meeting Tony again, he brags about what he did to Tony's wife and child in lurid detail in order to torment him.
- He mocks Laura and India as "weak" right in front of Tony.
- He leaves Lou to die after the latter is shot.
- He hits Tony on the head with a fireplace poker.
- He is indirectly responsible for Tony accidentally shooting himself in the stomach.
