~ Declan about Rawhead Rex |
Rawhead Rex is the titular main antagonist of the short story of the same name by the horror author Clive Barker. The original short story was published in the third volume of the Books Of Blood series.
He is an ancient and evil demi-god of immense malevolence with a carnivorous nature and insatiable thirst for blood. His notorious reputation was built upon his horrifying acts of consuming innocent children and subjecting women to his abhorrent acts of rape.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- His species is described as having spitefully raped human women to watch them die birthing their hybrid progeny.
- Upon being freed, he kills the man who freed him.
- He murders a farmer, eats the man's daughter, and kills the man's wife.
- Whilst he eschews menstruating women, this is only an idiosyncrasy relating to his demonic nature that makes them abhorrent to him, as opposed to sparing them out of standards or mercy.
- He attacks a police car, castrates the survivor, and then burns him alive.
- Although the Sergeant Gissing is secretly a pedophile, Rawhead has murdered children, and it isn't a stretch to assume he might have raped them either.
- He corrupts the local verger and mutilates the reverend out of contempt for his "weak" religion.
- He baptises him by urinating on him, and whilst the verger is ecstatic, this is still a disgusting thing to do; he kills him later in a fit of pique.
- He later graphically bites a boy's head off in front of his father, even as the boy vomits inside of his Rawhead's mouth as this happens. He later relaxes whilst eating the boy's entrails, notably his kidney.
- At the climax, he tries to burn all of Zeal down in his fury.
- He does not face his death with any dignity, voiding his bowels as he notes the infuriated crowd.
- Even though he is a literal monster, he is sapient, with enough intelligence to understand how to use petrol as a means of burning things.
