“ | Get away from my children. Have you any idea how long it took to shape their spirits into something useful? Have you any idea of the EFFORT? The FOCUS? Were it not for me, these misbegotten urchins would have perished in the winds of Fimbulwinter. But instead? They became something greater. Something magnificent. ~ The Raven Keeper to Kratos and Freya after freeing her victims. |
The Raven Keeper is a minor antagonist in the 2022 game God of War Ragnarök, serving as the main antagonist of "The Eyes of Odin" sidequest mission.
She is a fanatical acolyte of the Asgardian god Odin, making her an enemy of the legendary Spartan warrior Kratos and his ally Freya when they come across her. True to her name, the Raven Keeper has served Odin by creating the Eyes of Odin, flocks of ravens containing the souls of dead children, to spy on his behalf.
She was voiced by Lani Minella.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- According to Mimir, the Raven Keeper was known for committing the worst atrocities in Odin's name.
- Created the Eyes of Odin for the latter to sreve as his spies through the Nine Realms.
- In order to create the mystical ravens for the All-Father of the Asgardians, the Raven Keeper first tricked multiple parents to hang their children, and then she would abduct their innocent souls to transform them into the ravens who could serve Odin.
- She lashes out at Kratos and Freya/Atreus for freeing the souls of her victims at Niflheim, but not because she genuinely cares for them as her children, but because Odin will likely unleash his wrath on her for losing his spies.
- Engages Kratos and Freya/Atreus in a fight where she summons hel-walkers and the Palled One (a small dragon) before the powerful duo defeats her for good, earning the gratitude of all the children whose souls she claimed.
- As all Revenants are former humans, it can be implied that the Raven Keeper was originally one as well, but by presumably giving parts of her soul for more personal powers, she lost all the humanity she may have had once. However, if that were the case, she wouldn't have moral agency issues as it was her choice to give up her soul.
- While she is indeed loyal to Odin and the Aesir, her loyalty is far from genuine, as she can only torture children as part of her servitude to them.
Trivia[]
- Raven Keeper is the only Pure Evil in the God of War Norse era.
