Randolph Thaddeus Metzger, AKA SCP-748-4, is an antagonist in the SCP Foundation series. He is a wealthy industrialist and owner of the Lowell Factory, a Massachusetts subsidiary of the group known only as the Factory. He is the main antagonist of the articles SCP-748 and SCP-6748.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Even before he became involved with the Factory he was hated by organized labour because of his factory's lack of safety standards and squalid conditions.
- Although it was written that he did charity work, considering his personality, he likely, did it just to make himself look better for public.
- When the Lowell Factory was bombed in 1895, killing 23 people, Metzger used his corrupt police connections to ensure that six union members would be framed and executed for the bombing.
- It's implied that Metzger himself may have orchestrated the bombing for his own ends.
- He willingly sacrificed his family and household servants to the Investor to join the Factory.
- Luring his workers back to the rebuilt Lowell Factory with promises of better conditions and higher pay, he forced them to work for 24 hours a day in squalid conditions, only stopping to take drugs that would allow them to keep going without having to eat or sleep. In order to save on supplies they were only given enough drugs to keep them alive, with the result that they still felt the physical effects of overwork until they eventually died from exhaustion, at which point their bodies were thrown in a machine called the Crucible and turned into raw materials. This was done to thousands of men, women and children, with the work being so backbreaking that it was considered usual for their faces to start bleeding.
- In order to keep his workforce in line, he had inefficient workers lobotomized, skinned, plasticized and turned into mindless, faceless zombies named "Harvestmen" whose job was to torment workers with electric punishment rods.
- In 1912 Metzger began producing terrible anomalous weapons to fuel the Investor's planned war (likely World War I), describing it as a "most profitable venture".
- He produced a number of dangerous anomalies such as radioactive rocking horses and cigarettes that turned the consumer into a basking shark which then exploded.
- Even after the Investor shut down the Lowell Factory because he was losing control of the project, Metzger's Harvestmen continued to abduct people and convert them into Harvestmen. Entities under his control also abducted seven staff members at the Suffolk Mill and forcibly converted them into degraded, barely-human husks that were used as bodies for his workers and forced to undergo mechanical augmentation.
- After being discovered by the Foundation, he uses the Harvestmen to kill and convert all 62 personnel at Site-68 before destroying the site and converting it to raw materials.
- After the destruction of Site-68, he resumes selling dangerous anomalous products in Lowell, resulting in 33 deaths and 23 serious injuries.
- He re-establishes contact with the rest of the Factory and re-starts production, resulting in a worldwide influx of anomalous products to retailers which results in hundreds of deaths and injuries as part of a plan to remake the world so that only producer and consumer exist, with everyone else being used for raw materials. This includes directing the Harvestmen to attack random people and abduct them so they can be thrown in the Crucible.
