Ramón Rojo is the main antagonist of the 1964 Spaghetti Western film A Fistful of Dollars.
He is a member of the Rojo gang - a group of illegal rum-runners controlling a small town called San Miguel - being the middle-eldest. He is the middle-aged of the Rojo brothers, including the gang's leader Miguel and the violent Esteban. Though not the leader of the cartel, he is the most ambitious and cunning. He and his brothers is at war with the Baxter family. He then becomes an enemy of the Man with No Name AKA Joe.
He was portrayed by the late Gian Maria Volontè and voiced by the late Bernard Grant in the English dub, who also both played and voiced El Indio in the sequel For a Few Dollars More.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Ambushes an soldiers of the Mexican Army who had come to trade gold for rifles and not to fight (he disguised himself and pretended to be trading with them as the American Union Army) and massacres them all via a machine gun and his rifle, and does not allow any of them to flee. He does this just to steal their gold.
- He also frames the massacre as both armies betraying each other.
- Offers a fake peace treaty with the Baxters so after both Mexican and American army leaves, Ramon and his Rojo gang can destroy the Baxters without them knowing.
- Once he hears that two soldiers have "survived" (even though it's just two dead bodies used as a trick by Joe), he went to kill them along with several Baxters.
- He kidnapped a woman named Marisol and held her prisoner, forcing her to live with him, merely because her husband, Julio had “cheated” him at cards. It is implied that Julio cheating him wasn’t true.
- While he does let Marisol to temporarily reunite with her son Jesús during the prisoner exchange, this is later subvert when her husband being present and orders his right hand man Rubio to kill him.
- After Joe rescues Marisol, Ramon brutally tortures him, before he escapes.
- Ramón sets a rival gang, called the Baxters, house and kills all the residents (around 40 people) thinking they are protecting him.
- He has Silvanito tortured (thinking he knows where he is) and then attempts to hang him.
- He sets fire to the Baxter house and massacres the entire family when they try to escape out the door. When John Baxter and his son, Antonio come out unarmed and trying to surrender, Ramon pretends to spare them, but then kills them both in cold-blood instead. When John's wife Consuelo comes out and curses the Rojos, he has her killed as well.
