She is also the perverted, abusive and rapist mother as well arch-nemesis of both the Honnouji Academy student council president, Satsuki Kiryuin, and the main protagonist, Ryūko Matoi.
She was voiced by Romi Park in Japanese and Laura Post in English.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- Is a raving egotist that fused with the life Fibers and surrendered her humanity, and that if she has any sort of lingering feelings of humanity, she will seek its destruction.
- Though it's somewhat implied that her marriage to Soichiro/Isshin Matoi was done out of genuine love, it was also just to acquire his skills and have children to experiment on.
- Experimenting on both of her daughters to test the Life Fibers. When one of her daughters failed to endure the experiment of her mother, she callously throws her away, not even bothering to give her a name.
- Orders a hit on her husband when he was disgusted by Ragyō's cruelty to their daughters, and upon faking his death, Ragyō then sends Nui Harime to track down and kill him.
- In the present day, it was soon revealed that she sexually abuses and rapes her eldest daughter, Satsuki Kiryuin, since she was 5 years old either by groping her in the bath, either touching her crotch or even spanking Satsuki for betraying her.
- For the sake of power and satiating her ego on being the one that brings forth the end, she attempted to wipe out all of humanity by them all as energy sources to the Life Fibers by trapping them in COVERS to be enslaved mindless shells, before having the entire planet be covered by Life Fibers, eventually resulting in the planet blowing up to spread the Life Fibers, all which Ragyo is clearly aware of.
- Gleefully sacrificed all of Honno Town to be consumed by COVERS, consuming and enslaving the entire population.
- She ripped Ryuko's heart out with her bare hand painfully to taunt Ryuko of her true identity to be her long-lost daughter, breaking her into an existential crisis that sees her cut off everyone else for a reckless vengeance against Ragyo for a cruel trap.
- Said cruel trap involves her brainwashing Ryuko by forcing her to wear Junketsu into becoming her brainwashed servant and apparently raped her after she spoke ill of Soichiro towards Ryuko. If she didn't rape Ryuko, then she implanted a false memory of said event.
- She claims of sparing her daughters out of maternal feelings twice and both aren't mitigating for different reasons:
- She notes this is why she spared Satsuki for her betrayal and had her captured itself, but she then calls out how its false and it is just so she can be used as a living battery for the Shinra-Koketsu and then proceeds molest her.
- She notes that because of certain "maternal love" for Ryūko, her attacks were non-fatal, then she immediately subverts this and says she will destroy those feeling and kill her.
- She only cares about herself, she never cared about her subordinates Nui and Rei nor her own allies regardless their loyalty to her. She instead treats them as pawns to boost her power rather than seeing them as actual people. She simply ignores the deaths of her allies whenever they're killed during battles. During the final moments of her life, she didn't bother saving Nui when she was defeated by Ryuko. On the contrary, she instead backstabs Nui and leave her to die, so Ragyo can simply save her own skin for her own personal gains and goals. While she was shown saving Rei from a group of soldiers as a child in episode 25, this is no longer preventing since it was before she fully abandoned her humanity.
- When offered a chance to surrender peacefully and a reconciliation by Ryuko, her arrogant and stubborn demeanor has caused Ragyō to scoffed at this and spitefully rips out her heart and crushes it, committing suicide while coldly and wrathfully taunting Ryuko that the Life Fibers will return to doom humanity again.
- Despite the flamboyant and hammy nature of the series, Ragyō lacks any genuinely comedic quirk every other character has, even Nui whose humour is more sadistic, and her crimes being taken with dark gravity, in which Ragyo's introduction turned a low stakes revenge story to a high stakes alien invasion story that puts the very lives of humanity itself at stake.
