Is it true what they say about twins? Did you feel something when I blew your brother's brains out? Guess it's gonna hurt dying twice.
~ Solomon to Trevor.
Hey babe, whatever. While you end up in some lesbo prison, I'll be heading to L.A. with Travis' film under my belt and a three picture deal.
~ Solomon to Amy.

Professor Solomon, also known as The Student Film Killer, is the main antagonist of the 2000 slasher film Urban Legends: Final Cut.

He was a professor who taught a film class at Alpine University that became a serial killer in order to plagiarize one of his student's films and frame the daughter of his archenemy.

He was portrayed by Hart Bochner. In-costume scenes as The Student Film Killer were portrayed by Wayne Downer.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Drugs Lisa by lacing her drink and knocks her out by suffocating her with a plastic bag, and removes one of Lisa's kidneys while she's unconscious.
    • Tears and rips open her wound when she tries to climb out a window to escape, then pulls her back in and decapitates her by shutting the broken window on her neck.
    • Feeds her kidney to a chained-up German Shepherd outside.
      • While him feeding the kidney to the German Shepard could be interpreted as a Pet the Dog moment, there is no indication wether he cares about the dog or not, since the dog is shown chained to a pole, and he most likely feeds Lisa's kidney to get rid of the evidence.
        • In addition, the dog was essentially a deterrent to stop Lisa from escaping, so him feeding Lisa's kidney to the dog was only pragmatism and for his own benefit.
  • Cut the credits off of Travis's film and taped them onto Toby Belcher's film, pocketing the rest of the reel for "The Gods of Men," and planned to pass the film off as his own.
    • While this happens off-screen, near the end of the movie, Trevor and Amy discover the façade after seeing a strip of tape on the reel.
  • Gives Travis a C- on his film and later that night, shoots him with a gun inside the campus tower, and makes it look like a suicide.
    • Although the suicide happens off-screen and is only represented through a single gunshot, Solomon says he put a gun in Travis's mouth and pulled the trigger, in order to frame Amy.
      • Toby even says that he heard that his head was literally "blown off" that dental records couldn't even identify him, which adds weight to Travis's death.
    • When announcing Travis's demise, Solomon has the gull to say that Travis let himself and everyone down.
      • Travis's murder affects the main group, as they share a somber look during the announcement of his demise. It even affects other students who attended his funeral.
  • Approaches Sandra Petruzzi with a camera and straight razor in hand, then proceeds to slash and cut her multiple times with said razor, while chasing her and filming it.
    • He then shows the film of him killing Sandra to the rest of the crew, who all think that it's fake.
  • Follows Schorm "Simon" Jabuscko out to the courtyard, where he proceeds to beat him to death with his own heavy camera lens.
  • Relentlessly chases Amy three times, each time doing something more villainous.
    • The first chase doesn't have anything too major; but it does have him scaring Amy with a creepy but slightly taunting mask, breaking a window with a microphone stand and playing sinister low notes on a piano.
      • With this attack, he makes Reese questions Amy's claims about a masked killer attacking her.
    • The second chase is short but has him grabbing Amy's leg through the stairs and tripping her.
    • The third chase has him pursuing Amy and Vanessa in the campus bell tower, in which he locks Amy in a closet with the rotting corpses of Simon and Sandra, while he hangs Vanessa from the bell.
  • Hits Stan Washington in the head with a prop pickaxe, dazing him, then strikes a cord with his pickaxe, tearing it, and uses the cord to shock the railing Stan is holding onto, frying him.
  • Smashes Dirk Reynold's fingers with the pickaxe when he climbs up the ladder.
    • Chases a wounded Dirk down into the power room, and pushes him into a control box, frying him as well.
  • Writes a love letter to Vanessa Valdeon, pretending to be Amy, telling her to meet her in the bell tower.
  • Chases Amy and Vanessa up to the bell tower, where he proceeds to hang Vanessa with the rope from the bell.
  • Shoots Toby Belcher after finding out that he didn't do the sound for Travis' film. Toby luckily survives the gunshot round.
  • Taunts Trevor about his brother (whom Solomon killed), beats him up a lot, holds a gun to his head, and threatens to shoot him if Amy doesn't come out from hiding.
  • Tries to pin everything on Amy.
  • While Solomon having his dreams crushed and being stuck teaching can be seen as tragic, he is petty and goes too far past his Freudian Excuse to justify his actions.
    • Also, since his past was off-screen and is only mentioned in the final confrontation, it's hard to sympathize with Solomon, as the damage done that drove him down this dark path was off-screen as well.
    • Before Solomon starts explaining his past to Amy, he says "You think this is what I wanted?" The delivery of this line, along with Solomon's facial expressions can evoke a bit of sympathy for him, suggest that he does feel regret. However, he completely subverts this when his arrogance and sadism comes to the surface. He brags about killing Travis, filming Sandra's murder, and when Amy calls him out on his horrible actions, all he has to say for himself is "Whatever."
  • Shoots Graham during a struggle with Trevor (though Graham survived).
  • Punches campus security guard, Reese Wilson, to disarm her after she sees through his lies.
  • Makes one last attempt to attack Amy, because he believed that she was too scared to shoot him.
  • Being the most evil villain from the Urban Legend trilogy, in spite of competitors like Brenda Bates who has has a higher body count, but is tragic, having lost her mind from losing her fiancé to a stupid prank. Mary Banner was tragic, had a low kill count, and was honorable as she saved the protagonist from being murdered. William Owens was despicable, but lacks a rap sheet. It also doesn't help that he only killed two people, and one of them was accidental.
  • During the ending, Solomon can be seen as pitiful, as thanks to a bullet, he is now reduced to being a wheelchair-bound and shaking mental patient who can only watch on a television as Amy succeeds at directing and making films. However, this turns out to be karmic not only due to his actions, but also because lunging at Amy was what caused him to get shot. He only has himself to blame for this.
  • While some parts in Solomon's scenes are comedic, such as Melvin Zarkoff sleeping during his welcome speech, him being exhausted during Dr. Richard Fain's lecture, having a prop chair broken on his head and saying a humorous line afterwards, these are not preventions as it doesn't distract from his villainy.
  • While Solomon has a picture of a couple (supposedly his parents) on his desk, there is no indication wether he cares for them or not, given how he never speaks of them nor are there any scenes of them together.

Trivia[]

  • The couple on Solomon's desk photo is actually John Ottman's, the director of the film.
