Professor Pee-Pee Diarrheastein Poopypants, Esq., or simply Professor Poopypants, or just Poopypants, is the main antagonist of DreamWorks’ 35th full-length animated feature film, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, based on Dav Pilkey’s Captain Underpants book series.
He is a scientist from the country of New Swissland who once created a variety of inventions to benefit humanity, only for him to be mocked and shunned at a Nobel Prize Committee due to his ridiculous name, causing him to form a evil plan of eradicating the laughter out of every person in the world so that people wouldn’t laugh at him anymore.
He was voiced by Nick Kroll, who also voiced Douche in Sausage Party.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Despite the incredibly comedic nature of the film and Poopypants himself having many comedic moments, (with his name and character being almost a joke) unlike his original counterpart, (who has comedic moments and redeeming qualities) this version of Professor Poopypants is not always treated comedically and his act of trying to get rid of laughter is not played for laughs in the slightest and is taken very seriously in-universe and to top it off, he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Despite having several comedic moments, they don't detract from his villainy, as he is still taken very seriously in-universe as a threat by the other characters, particularly George and Harold, generally react to his evil acts as serious threats that need to be stopped, rather than simply a joke.
- He absolutely hates laughter and seeks revenge over it, and he is even going to wipe out the joy of the entire population in order to get rid of it, which is slightly different than his book counterpart.
- While he works accordingly with Melvin, their partnership is just a pragmatic relationship, as he manipulated Melvin into becoming his sidekick, and only he sees him as a pawn, and he didn't show any care for him when the kids rolled him away, showing they are only getting along simply out of pragmatism.
- While he did have a bad reputation at the invention ceremony by getting humiliated in front of an audience when the Noble Moderator exposed his name and took a breath out of anger when the backstory ended (even having a panic attack), that doesn’t make him tragic, as he even subverted his humiliating backstory and has fallen further into the dark side, shedding any redeeming qualities along the way.
Film[]
- Even before he was mocked and snapped into villainy, Poopypants was already a jerk, with his rant implying he only created the shrink ray just to be famous and date a woman twice his size; he likely only said he could talk to seals just to make himself look good.
- After he felt rage from enough laughter, he shrinks the Noble Moderator tiny from mocking his name and even yells at her when she apologizes to him and tells him to turn her back to normal by denying her apology, meaning he uses his own shrink-ray invention to shrink people who ever doubted him and didn’t feel remorse.
- He has deadly weapons in his suitcase, implying he even carries weapons for his evil plots and possibly murdered some people. He even tried to use the chomp on Captain Underpants, while he is disguise as Mr. Krupp, and while he wasn’t shocked by this, this isn’t a prevention as he still doesn’t get distracted by his villainy.
- While he does has some standards, as he explicitly states that he would never sit on a baby, it isn't genuine, as it was just a quick throwaway joke.
- He teaches the class about how he will get rid of laughter, which foreshadows his plot to the children to brainwash the Hahaguffawchuckleamalus.
- Unlike the other teachers of Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, including Mr. Krupp, who are extremely bog-standard, and don’t harass and abuse the students of the school severely enough, Professor Poopypants is the strictest teacher when his face turns red, showing he doesn’t care about children after all.
- While he does seem to have standards in outright getting rid of the part of the brain that causes laughter, simply because humans need it to survive, this is not an redeeming quality as he says it in frustrated tone, not to mention that he is willing to brainwash everyone to achieve his goals.
- He locks two girls in a giant cage for laughing at him, meaning he imprisons children for their laughter as well.
- It is implied that he hijacks an ice cream truck, the one he had been run over earlier, and uses it as his evil lair.
- He manipulates Melvin into becoming his sidekick due to Melvin being the only student who doesn’t laugh, nor does he have a Hahaguffawchuckleamalus, and how he admires Poopypants's plot, but it’s likely for pragmatism to achieve his goals.
- He enlarges the Turbo Toilet 2000 and uses the leftovers from the cafeteria to make the Turbo Toilet 2000 all-powerful and plans to rule over the galaxy.
- When he and Melvin are going to the school in the Turbo Toilet 2000, they throw a house over (likely killing anyone inside it) and kick a car across the street, endangering the driver inside.
- While he does spare Miss Anthrope, who is stuck on hold, saying it sucks to be on hold, he doesn't show explicit sympathy for her and ends up threatening the school with everyone in it, including her.
- While he says that teachers and the education system as a whole are grossly underpaid and undervalued, he was a teacher, and he still ends up threatening the school, plus this is a throwaway joke.
- He controls Melvin to brainwash all the students’ minds, including George and Harold’s, into nothing but mindless zombies who don’t find anything funny anymore, and it was heavily implied that he will brainwash the entire population of laughter and rule over the galaxy until his plan 100% succeeds.
- This isn't fridge horror either, as it is confirmed that the brainwashing will be the death of a personality with George and Harold saying that if they don’t laugh at something soon, they’ll never laugh again, putting everyone in a fate worse than death, as they'll be humorless, senseless husks of their former selves.
- He drops Captain Underpants into the toilet water, intending to drown him, though this accidentally ends up giving Captain Underpants real superpowers.
- He tries to shrink George and Harold and make them live in his pocket forever, out of revenge for foiling his plans, and would have succeeded if Captain Underpants hadn’t come to their rescue with his newfound superpowers.
- When he is accidentally enlarged into a giant by Captain Underpants, he scares all the children and even picks up the tiny school with the tiny students and tiny teachers.
- Despite having a very comedic defeat of being shrunken and later being smacked away by Captain Underpants on a bee, this is played for well-deserved karma and satisfaction for his crimes and attempting to brainwash the entire population.
Trivia[]
- His book counterpart doesn’t qualify due to having redeeming qualities and not being heinous enough.
- He is the second villain portrayed by Nick Kroll to be Pure Evil, the first being Douche.
