“ | Think of it. Hitler bent a weakend nation to his will using nothing but raw charisma. All that from a man who only made corporal. A man whom art school wouldn't deign to let in. His charisma appeared after he hit his thirties. Not so with your brother Johan. He was a leader of a man even as a mere boy. Charisma of a messianic proportions. But even Jesus Christ had help. Consider three Magi and John the Baptist who herald the Savior's arrival into the world. How they ready the way for his glory. Likewise, four of us have been keeping track of Johan's talents every since he was a mere boy. Exiting, wouldn't you say? | „ |
~ Goedelitz speech to Nina. |
Professor Günther Goedelitz is a supporting antagonist in the hit 1994 manga series by Naoki Urasawa, Monster and in it's 2004 anime adaptation. He was a renowned professor at Dresden University but is secretly one of the 4 founders of the Neo-Nazi organization headquartered in Frankfurt. Taking an interest in Johan Liebert, Goedelitz shows the most interest in making him the new leader so that the Nazi regime can be resurrected and spread across the world so that the "superior race" of Germans are the only ones left in it.
He was voiced by the late Iemasa Kayumi in Japanese and Douglas Lee in English.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is a Nazi fanatic that intends to restart the horrific Nazi regime that caused suffering to Europe in the 1930s and the 1940s due to the Nazi rhetoric fitting his supremacist ideals over life, with the intent of forcing the entire planet under his restarted totalitarian regime.
- Attempts to indoctrinate Johan into becoming the Neo-Nazis' new leader, kidnapping Johan's sister Anna to try to force Johan to lead his organization.
- Plots the complete extermination of all those he deems as the "inferior races" so that only "the strong race of Germans" are that remain in the world.
- Masterminds the genocidal plot to burn down the entire Turkish village and every last man, woman and child present to begin establishing his bigoted world order.
- When a Turkish prostitute called Ayse overhears the plot to burn down the Turkish district, he has her detained and then eventually drowned to silence any loose ends.
- Out of all the leaders and figures of power in the Neo-Nazi organization, Goedelitz is the only one devoid of any redeeming qualities and is the worst of the lot.
- Of all of Johan's victims, he is easily the least sympathetic of them, due to having the vilest of crimes.
- His relation with Johan is nothing more than an obsession on his part, as he sees Johan as a symbol of the supreme "race" of humans, but does not care at all about him as a person.
Trivia[]
- He is one of the two Monster villains to be Pure Evil, alongside with Hartmann. Ironically, both of them disappear from the story early on while the other important villains with even the smallest redeeming qualities stay safe until the Capek arc.
