“ | They can't just drop me. I'm light as a feather! I'm the Bake-O-Lite Girl! | „ |
~ Piella's catchphrase as well as her last words. |
Piella Bakewell is the main antagonist of the 2008 short film Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death, the fifth installment of the Wallace and Gromit franchise, and the overarching antagonist of its 2021 spin-off reality mobile video game Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up.
She was a famous actress known as Bake-O-Lite Girl who used to be on a commercial selling slim-cut bread, but was eventually fired due to her increased obesity, which caused her to become The Cereal Killer and kill 13 local chefs that made her get fired, until she eventually lost to Wallace.
She was voiced by Sally Lindsay.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- She murdered twelve innocent bakers to reach her "baker's dozen" even though they were all in love with her out of petty and misplaced spite on her losing her job as the "Bake-O-Lite" girl despite having been otherwise fine in life and in fact, was her own fault for eating way too much.
- She abused her dog Fluffles to the point where she was implied to be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
- She incriminated Gromit for biting her when she actually bit herself, resulting in Gromit being muzzled up and forced to wash dishes in the kitchen, where from up above Piella took off one of her shoes and placed it on a trap, attempting to have Wallace grab it from where she planned to push him in, but she was stopped by a bag of flour.
- She set a bomb in a cake to give to Wallace in order to blow him up.
- While she presented the bomb cake, she looked at Gromit and lied that Fluffles wasn't feeling well, taking advantage of his compassion. This resulted in Gromit going to her mansion, only to realize that it's a trap to lock him into her closet with Fluffles to prevent them from saving Wallace.
- Piella held Fluffles hostage by grabbing her by the throat, warning Wallace and Gromit not to try anything otherwise she would kill her.
- Despite her comedic moments, she is taken frighteningly seriously during the course of the story by both the characters and the narrative, with Wallace not laughing at Piella or treating her as a fat joke when she explains the origins of her villainy, being terrified for his life instead.
- When she died, she was only mourned because of how disturbing her death was, and besides, she tried to kill Wallace even after he saved her from being eaten alive by the crocodiles, making it a karmic death and a fitting punishment for her.
- Additionally, Wallace shrugs it off after he returns back to his home.
- She is considered to be the most heinous villain in the Wallace and Gromit franchise as her actions are played completely seriously and further show how ruthless, malicious, cruel and vile she really is since she is never played for laughs, despite the comedic tone of the franchise.
Trivia[]
- In the video game Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up, Piella Bakewell's death is what prompts Bernard Grubb to seek revenge on Wallace and Gromit, as he claims that he and Piella were in a romantic relationship. However, it's unknown if Piella really loved Bernard or if Bernard merely believes she did.
- It could also be possible that she and Grubb were married before Piella turned evil.
- Paella Bakewell is the second female Aardman antagonist to be Pure Evil, the other being Melisha Tweedy from the Chicken Run film series.
