NOTE: This page is only about his film incarnation as the original book incarnation of Peter Pettigrew was not voted Pure Evil, and thus only the film version of Peter Pettigrew's info and crimes should be put here.

Remus Lupin: You sold James and Lily to Voldemort, didn't you?
Peter Pettigrew: I didn't mean to! The Dark Lord. You have no idea the weapons he possesses! Ask yourself, Sirius; what would you have done? What would you have done?
Sirius Black: I would have died! I would have died rather than betray my friends!
~ Peter Pettigrew's confession

Peter Pettigrew, also known by his nickname Wormtail, is a major antagonist in the Harry Potter franchise, serving as the main antagonist of the Prisoner of Azkaban, the secondary antagonist of the Goblet of Fire, a cameo character in the Order of the Phoenix, a minor antagonist in the Half-Blood Prince and a supporting antagonist in the Deathly Hallows - Part 1.

He used to be one of James Potter's friends, alongside Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, but later joined the Death Eaters and betrayed James and his wife Lily to Lord Voldemort. He then murdered 12 Muggles before hiding for a little over a decade, framing Sirius for his crimes during those twelve years he was also Rons pet.

He was portrayed by Timothy Spall.

History

What Makes Him Pure Evil?

  • Betrayed his close friends James and Lily Potter to Lord Voldemort. Unlike his literature incarnation, his cinematic incarnation never showed any sincere regrets for doing so.
  • Murdered 12 muggles, and 1 wizard without any reason other than sadism, right before framing his close friend Sirius Black both for murdering the muggles and betraying the Potters.
  • To avoid suspicion, he hid in plain sight as a rat named "Scabbers" and manipulated Ron by being his pet for twelve years, making him not considering the option that his fake pet was behind the murder of his best friend's parents.
  • Gave a cowardly act in claiming Sirius and Lupin are his old friends as a way to escape.
  • He smiled ominously at an unfortunate muggle caretaker named Frank Bryce, presumably intending to attack him along with Barty Crouch Jr. before Voldemort ordered him to step aside and killed his victim himself.
  • Gladly murdered Cedric Diggory in cold blood when a powerless Voldemort ordered him to do so for being "the spare".
  • Pettigrew directly sought out Voldemort, and played a direct role in Voldemort's revival making him directly responsible for the numerous deaths that occur later in the series.
  • His loyalty to Voldemort is just fanaticism and self-preservation and he's not protective over him.
  • Locked up Luna Lovegood, Garrick Ollivander, Griphook, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley in the dungeons of Malfoy Manor with glee under the orders of Bellatrix Lestrange.

Trivia

  • Only Peter Pettigrew's film incarnation qualifies for Pure Evil status, because the literature version showed regret for betraying James and Lily, was more sympathetic and his death was played sympathetically, overall preventing him from even coming close to being Pure Evil.
    • It should be noted, however, that Pettigrew's death was taken out from Deathly Hallows: Part 1 because the filmmakers felt it would have been too intense and too disturbing for younger viewers. Had it been featured, it's unknown whether the scene would have prevented Pettigrew from qualifying as Pure Evil, because he never displayed any remorse like in the books by that point.
