They strike, wrap around you. Hold you tighter than your true love. And you get the privilege, of hearing your bones break before the power of embrace causes your veins to explode.
~ Paul Serone

Paul Serone is the secondary antagonist of the 1997 thriller-horror film Anaconda.

He was portrayed by Jon Voight.

Biography[]

Once a priest from Paraguay, Serone came to the Amazon rainforest for a record-breaking anaconda and capture it for a reward of a million dollars. Along the way, he comes across a documentary film crew in search of a lost civilization. Serone offers to help them if they assist him in tracking the anaconda. Under his charisma, Serone was plotting to use the crew as bait for his anaconda.

What Makes Him Pure Evil[]

  • He was a poacher who hunted animals, especially snakes, for profit.
  • Planned to manipulate, endanger and sacrifice a group of innocent people so he could catch an anaconda for personal gain.
  • Although he saved Gary and Denise from a wild boar, he did it solely because he wanted to be trusted by the group, making that act a pragmatic one. Even if it was done out of some kind of care, he would later subvert it.
  • Placed a poisonous wasp in Cale's scuba gear so he could both acquire the team's trust by "saving him" and force them to go where he wants.
  • When the group's boat was blocked by a wall, Serone blew it up. In the process, he unintentionally caused the loss of most of the boat's fuel.
  • Didn't express any sadness at the death of his poaching partner who committed suicide.
  • Immediately and uncaringly dismissed Mateo as dead after he went missing, even though Terri believed that the skipper might be only lost.
  • Didn't bother to accompany Danny when he went looking for Mateo.
  • Shot a monkey and used it as bait.
  • Endangered the group by luring the male anaconda to the boat in an attempt to catch it.
  • Remorselessly allowed the male anaconda to kill Gary as he could not profit over a dead snake.
  • Harassed and forcefully kissed Terri.
  • He openly threatened Terri's group whenever he faced defiance from them, until they overpowered him and tied him up.
  • Remorselessly strangles Denise to death with his legs when she attempted to avenge Gary and then dumped her lifeless body into the river, before freeing himself.
  • Allowed the male anaconda to kill Westridge by attacking Danny and Terri before they could shoot it.
  • He beat up Danny and tried to stab him to death.
  • When Terri killed the male anaconda, Serone became furious and tried to kill her, Danny and Cale.
  • Captured and tied up Terri and Danny then covered them in monkey blood planning to have them fed to the female anaconda as bait and mocked them of their impending deaths. This act backfired and the anaconda killed him after he made an unsuccessful attempt to catch it for personal gain.
