It means I have been tasked with overseeing the end of your universe. Regardless of what the pencil pushers upstairs would prefer, I will not waste my life watching it die slowly of natural causes. We used to just prune these things. Simple, elegant, efficient. But I'm told the TVA does not like to do that anymore, well I do! No matter what my so-called superiors say, the multiverse doesn't need a baby sitter, it needs a mercy killer. And in this instance, I am the mercy killer!
~ Paradox revealing his plans to Deadpool.

Paradox, also known as Mr. Paradox, is the secondary antagonist of the 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine, the third installment in the Deadpool trilogy.

He is a rogue agent of the Time Variance Authority who is in charge of overseeing the Multiverse after God Loki's reformation of the organization. However, rather than waiting for the slow natural extinction of Earth-10005 due to the loss of Wolverine, its "anchor being", Paradox prefers to accelerate the process with the Time Ripper, a device capable of pruning timelines which he intends to use to become the TVA's leader.

He was played by Matthew Macfadyen.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Although he has several comedic moments especially his reaction to “He has risen, Baby Girl,”, all of them are karmic given his nature and none of these detract the seriousness of his actions and plans for the Time Ripper.
  • While all of the TVA agents were kidnapped by He Who Remains and had their memories erased, this doesn't make Paradox sympathetic since he himself doesn't seem bothered by it. It's also implied that he was already a horrible person before being forced into the TVA.
  • While he harbors some twisted respect for Earth-10005's Wolverine, it is just blatant pragmatism, not to mention hypocritical due to the fact that he was going to destroy said Wolverine's universe either way. Also given that Earth-10005's Wolverine dies in 2029 and he plans to erase the timeline in 2024, shows he's okay with destroying a timeline even before the anchor being is supposed to die.
  • Despite the high heinous standards of both the X-Men film series and the MCU, Paradox easily stands out within the former's standards given how his threat overshadows anything Apocalypse ever did and within the latter's standards, while He Who Remains and Miss Minutes did the same as part of the TVA, they had far more resources at his disposal than Paradox, who is just a mere agent.
  • Most of his actions are motivated by his selfish desire for a promotion within the TVA, making him an extremely unsympathetic man.
  • He doesn't seem to be concerned with the fact that the tailor under his is likely a sexual predator, as he didn't react when Deadpool claimed to be molested by him.
  • He is hinted to be xenophobic towards mutants when talking with Pyro.

Background[]

  • When the infant Cassandra Nova tried to strangle her twin brother Charles Xavier with a womb chord, Paradox pruned her, sending her to the Void, a wasteland that unwanted variants and destroyed worlds were sent. Even though Cassandra tried to kill her twin brother who was a baby, she too was a baby, making it extremely unethical.
  • Made a deal with Cassandra and her crew to dispose of any variants sent there as long as she didn't leave the dimension.
  • Stroke a deal with Pyro to have Cassandra killed if she ever tried to escape, though nothing confirms he was going to keep his word.
  • Pruned Elektra, Blade, the Human Torch, Gambit, and X-23 from their worlds to the Void, leaving them at the mercy of Nova and Alioth. With the exception of X-23, the respective universes of Elektra, Blade, the Human Torch, Gambit and other variants (like Daredevil, Punisher, Quicksilver and etc.) would soon begin to weaver after they kidnapped and pruned to the Void when they refused his offer, slowly endangering their worlds without them as the Anchor Beings.

Deadpool & Wolverine[]

  • Creates the Time Ripper, a pruning device capable of pruning entire timelines and worlds, so he can accelerate the deaths of all those dying realities within the Multiverse such as Earth-10005 (which is dying thanks to Wolverine's death due to the actions of Dr. Zander Rice and Donald Pierce). This is an act of treason as he’s not only betraying a organization that protects, not one dimension but various at the same time’s trust, but he is creating a weapon that's illegal and can destroy one in a short amount of time.
  • He had Deadpool kidnapped from his home during his birthday, offering him to place him into the Sacred Timeline so he could destroy Earth-10005.
  • He also doesn’t seem to respect Deadpool in any way as he only has him join because Paradox’s superiors knew he’d have a future and even says it to Deadpool.
  • Turned on Deadpool when he rejected his offer, mocking him when he brought a Wolverine variant Paradox deemed the worst for letting down his universe before proceeding to prune them both to the Void, as they were going to expose his plans to the TVA.
  • Assembled the Time Ripper on a subway of Earth-10005 until Deadpool, Wolverine and Cassandra Nova arrive.
  • Cowardly tells Cassandra Nova how the Time Ripper works just to save his own skin. When Deadpool and Wolverine confront him, he initially lies about knowing how to disable. It takes Wolverine threatening him to spill everything and even then it was just to save himself.
  • Attempts to lie to Hunter B-15 when she is alerted of his actions by painting himself in a better light to save himself from being arrested, claiming that Deadpool and Wolverine sacrificed themselves with his help only to be exposed once they reveal they're still alive and well, arrested for his actions and terminated from his job in the process.
  • As he is being dragged away to face judgment, Paradox refuses to show remorse or any regret for what he has done, even attempting to justify it, which is not the case.
