The Pale Man is the secondary antagonist of the 2006 Spanish dark fantasy drama film Pan's Labyrinth. He is a pale-skinned humanoid monster with his eyeballs in the palms of his hands, giving him a terrifying appearance.
He was portrayed by Doug Jones.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- As revealed in the DVD comics, the Pale Man was a glutton who hoarded in excess and was banished into the netherworld. He gained an appetite for children, whom he gladly hunted himself, and protected the golden dagger to prevent himself from dying.
- He had hunted hundreds of children, sadistically torturing them before eating them, having murals of himself leering and killing young kids and a horde of children shoes in the corner of his lair. He also used to be obese off his gluttony, judging by his loose skin.
- When witnessing Ofelia stealing his golden dagger, he attacked her and intended to eat her, brutally biting the heads off two of her fairy friends when they tried stopping him from eating her.
- His death of disintegrating without his dagger, while rather painful, was definitely well deserved.
- While seemingly being a mindless beast, the DVD comics gave him a personality of a gluttonous sadist who was gleeful in hunting children.
Trivia[]
- He's one of two Pure Evils (the other being Kroenen) from a del Toro film who doesn't count based on the film alone but was approved due to additional exposition from a tie-in comic.
- His backstory in the DVD comic is different from the backstory given in the novelization, despite this also being co-written by del Toro.
