“ | All I did was make those kids into who they wanted to be. | „ |
~ Owen Whistler’s last words before Angie Phelps kills him, as well as his most infamous quote. |
“ | Ok. Listen up. Two things control this world. Biology, and history. I know this is not a popular thing to say nowadays, but men have naturally evolved to be larger and stronger than women. There’s a reason for that. Our forefathers were hunters. They had to chase down game and subdue it. They hunted, or they starved, it’s in our DNA gentlemen! We’re meant to be killers! This is our biological imperative. And no amount of civilization, no amount of progress, no amount of liberal humanism can alter that genetic truth. You can’t argue with science. And science tells us we are meant to pass down the necessary DNA through the bloodline, through women, through impregnating women and having children. That is science. And that is history. | „ |

Owen Whistler is the main antagonist of the horror drama slasher Peacock film They/Them (pronounces They-SLASH-Them).
He is the runner of The Whistler Gay Conversion Camp, and despite his charismatic and down to earth nature, it’s revealed he’s a psychopathic bigot who psychologically breaks his campers and children in order to convert them into being straight and cis.
He was portrayed by Kevin Bacon, who also played Sean Nokes in Sleepers, Sebastian Caine in Hollow Man, Sebastian Shaw in X-Men: First Class and Bobby Hayes in R.I.P.D.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He runs the Whistler Camp for decades, and brutally tortures and abuses LGBT children in order to convert them, including Electroshock Therapy, which leads to multiple kids dying, and leads to one of his old campers, Angie Philips, psychologically breaking.
- In his introductions attempts to act friendly and assures the teens they won’t try and convert, before pressuring Non-Binary Jordan into joining the male side of the cabin, and later forces Alexandra, a trans woman to join the male side out of punishment for hiding her gender.
- When taking the male campers hunting (while making the female campers bake for them), he tries to force Toby to kill the camp dog Duke due to having cancer, and berates him to shoot, or else Zane will torture the dog to death with a sledgehammer.
- Baits the questioning Stu into having sex with Gabriel before kidnapping him and electrocuting him to make him straight, nearly killing them.
- He shows to have no care for anyone, as he shows a lack of care towards his workers, given they were former campers he “converted” straight, and while he is married to Dr. Cora, we don’t know their relationship and we don’t see his reaction to her death.
- He is the reason Angie Philips became a serial killer, murdering of all the staff and Owen himself, who’s death is played with satisfaction.
