If you must know, my name is Osmund Saddler. The master of this fine... religious community.
~ Osmund Saddler.
Oh, I think you know. The American prevailing is a cliché that only happens in your Hollywood movies. Oh, Mr. Kennedy, you entertain me. To show my appreciation, I will help you awaken from your world of clichés.
~ Osmund Saddler to Leon before the final battle begins.

Lord Osmund Saddler is the main antagonist of Resident Evil 4 and the posthumous overarching antagonist of Resident Evil 5, Damnation, and Vendetta.

He was voiced by Michael Gough.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Did whatever it took to seek and obtain materials for bio-weapons research along with resources to fund a paramilitary organisation, all of which is necessary to revive Los Iluminados cult where he aimed to spread the cult's belief to entire world. He wasn't even above converting his would-be followers physically (injecting them with a Plaga egg) and spiritually which costed them their humanity (see other points below for more information).
  • When he met Ramon Salazar, the 8th Castellan descended from the one who both sealed away Las Plagas and purged medieval-era iteration of Los Iluminados, Saddler used his charisma to convince the young man to release the parasites to the world once more as the way to atone his ancestors' "sin."
  • Having obtained Salazar's backing and fortune, Saddler proceeded to hire workers from the nearby village to assist Salazar in mining the parasites which seemingly had since died out and left nothing but fossilized remains. Upon discovering some, if not all of said fossils being mere husks containing Las Plagas' spore form which unwittingly inhaled by the workers thus allowing the rejuvenated parasites to fully regenerate inside them many years later, Saddler, unfazed by their loss, established a large research complex and military base around ancient ruins on a nearby island to study and subsequently engineering Las Plagas to better suit his Los Iluminados iteration's cause. It is through said experiments he developed Recessive Plagas (plaga strain that took over the host), Master Plagas aka. Dominant Species Plagas (which endows the host ability to mutate at will as well as command over hosts of Recessive variant while retaining their human mind), and Queen Plaga that can asexually produce more eggs.
    • The children in the village also all ended up dying painfully, as their bodies were not developed enough to handle the effects the Plaga egg had on their bodies.
  • Converting Salazar's subjects into Los Iluminados' belief where the process involved injecting would-be devotees with Plaga's egg form as means to turn them into slaves under the control of wielders of Dominant Species Plagas such as himself. Saddler also did the same to members of his militia and cultists to ensure their loyalty as well as ordering Jack Krauser to kidnap Ashley Graham in order to inject her with one of Plaga eggs in his disposal as part of the plan to seize control over U.S. and then the rest of the world with his Plaga, achieving world domination in the process, through Saddler destroying their humanity and ability to control their own bodies, leaving them as nothing but puppets for Saddler to control, just like his own men and the villagers he already infected.
  • When Leon found him and tried to retrieve Ashley, Saddler explained his plan to him and sent his occultists to attack him.
  • When Luis Sera, one of Saddler's researchers, attempted to give Leon a Dominant Species Plaga sample, the cult leader appeared and executed him for his betrayal.
  • He sent many of his minions to attack and recapture Leon and Ashley a number of times at the risk of losing too many subordinates all to buy some time for the two's respective Plaga to grow and fully take them over. Throughout such attempts, Saddler also orders them not to hesitate to resort to kill Leon when it became increasingly apparent that the agent's persistence increasingly made him more of a hindrance than potential pawn.
  • During the confrontation where Leon and Ashley's Plagas reached juvenile stage, Saddler used his power to mind-control the latter while subduing the former through their parasites.
  • Sent Jack Krauser to try and kill Leon, but did not fully trust him and secretly planned a way to get rid of him. Although Krauser was only in it for himself, Saddler was planning to get rid of him based on a hunch alone, rather then having evidence that Krauser was truly going to betray him.
  • Orders a ganado to shoot down Mike's helicopter who was Leon's support. Afterwards during a call, Leon is furious at Saddler for murdering him, however Saddler shows no remorse, telling Leon that shooting down a helicopter with someone in it is equal to swatting a bothersome fly and that once the parasite takes over Leon, he will have this mentality as well.
  • After Ada intervenes to help Leon and Ashley escape, Saddler attempts to kill her in brutal ways, before kidnapping her to use as bait for Leon later.
  • Upon discovering Leon has disposed the parasite inside him, Saddler took that as the last straw and resorted to mutate into his spider-like battle form in order to kill him.
  • Despite his death, the Las Plagas parasite still continued to kill and infect many people throughout subsequent installments starting from Resident Evil 5, due to Wesker and Excella creating the Las Plagas parasite 2.0 (Type-2 and Type-3 Plagas), which immediately infects the host rather then over time and spreading it throughout Africa, infecting their own henchmen, civilians and even tribespeople. Events of Resident Evil: Damnation saw President Svetlana Belikova bred subordinate and Dominant-species varieties of Type-4 Plagas to crush the rebels in the Eastern Slav Republic at the risk of causing outrbeak. Not to mention about remnants of Los Illuminados allied themselves with Glenn Arias and Dylan Blake of A-GUA Industries, Ltd. to develop A-Virus which involved Las Plagas parasite's genes which then released upon New York City turning 50% of the population into zombies and planned on releasing the virus into the world after as well as Aquatic Lickers as shown in Resident Evil: Vendetta and Resident Evil: Death Island.

Trivia[]

  • Despite only seeing them as pawns at best, Saddler came to value both Bitorez Mendez and Ramon Salazar's loyalty to the extent where he couldn't help but be a bit disheartened by their loss at hands of Leon, as shown in one of his notes, 'Our Plan'. However, this is not enough to demote his Pure Evil status, because it is not unlikely that the only valued their usefulness to him rather than any close bond.
  • Only the original game version of Osmund Saddler that reached Pure Evil status. The remake have him suffering personality and identity corruption in courtesy of his very Dominant Species Plaga instead of self-awareness.
