| “ | Looks like this will be the final showdown between the strongest. You sir have truly piqued my interest... A human who is able to reach the pinnacle strength of living organisms. How effective that will be against me, I'm somewhat looking forward to it. | „ |
| ~ Orochi prior to his introduction to Saitama. |
"Monster King" Orochi is a major antagonist of the One-Punch Man franchise, being one of the two main antagonists of the Human Monster saga (alongside Psykos).
A self-proclaimed ruler of all monsters, Orochi was once a misanthropic martial artist until meeting Psykos, who experimented on him to become the ultimate life form. The two would form the Monster Association, with Psykos is the true leader while Orochi acts as the figurehead. Alongside his partner, the two plan the eradication of all human life until only monsters remain for them to rule over.
He was voiced by Atsushi Ono in the Japanese dub and Jason Marnocha in the English dub.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- He was already a misanthrope who detached himself from humanity, willingly chose to be a guinea pig for Psykos's inhumane experiments solely for the sake of gaining power for himself. So, he has no tragic backstory as to why he does the things he does, beyond being a power-hungry madman seeking godhood.
- While he shows some respects to Saitama, this is only limited to the fact he sees him as a worthy sacrifice for him to ascend to godhood. When Saitama defeated him, he shows the sore loser he is and seeks to get revenge on him, in stark contrast to fellow arc villain Lord Boros who shown a genuine sense of honor to him.
- Shows no loyalty to Psykos, and has complete agency over his actions as he pretended to be brainwashed by her so when the time comes, he'll usurp her and cement himself as the leader of the Monster Association.
- While the heinous standards is ridiculously high as attempting genocide on the human race is common, and mass death is a recurring thing, Orochi stands out as one of the worst monsters in the setting. He is a cannibal who devoured, assimilated, and killed hundreds of his own minions, is equally responsible for the carnage the Association commits as he's the one producing the monster cells that mutates humans. Along with this, he and Psykos tried to assimilate all life on the planet, which will entail horrific body horror and genocide of all things.
- Tatsumaki even calls Psykos out that she has to rely on Orochi to do her battles, proving he is much more than just a pawn, but a vital part in her plans.
One-Punch Man[]
- Is one of the founders of the Monster Association, mass producing Monster Cells which can mutate humans into dangerous, and sadistic monsters out to kill as many humans as possible. The organization's goal is the eradication and enslavement of all humanity and rule the entire world for monster supremacy.
- Prior to the events of the story, he defeated the martial artist Gouketsu and gives him a Monster Cells, mutating him and his students into monsters.
- He alongside Gyoro Gyoro orchestrate a nationwide attack on the human populace, causing widespread death and destruction to whole cities, with any hero trying to stop them getting critically injured and brutalized. Such attacks includes:
- The vampire Pureblood killing hundreds of people by draining them dry of their blood, leaving them as withered corpses.
- Do-S brainwashing civilians and heroes to fight each other to the death and turning them into her "Love Slaves".
- A giant octopus monster crushing entire buildings and endangering or killing possibly thousands.
- A snake monster poisoning dozens of people including heroes with her toxic venom.
- A monster attacking a hospital to slaughter the patients and heroes stationed there.
- Sending Gouketsu to a martial arts tournament to mutate the fighters to boost the Association's ranks, where upon some of the fighters become monsters while others are brutally beaten near to death.
- And lastly, unleashing Elder Centipede who destroyed vast chunks of a city, along with endangering an entire population of another city which states he'll end up massacring if he isn't stopped.
- The Monster Association proved to be such a threat, humans began forming a cult to stave off from annihilation and try to convince other humans to join them. They even decided to condone human sacrifices to appease the monsters once they rule the world.
- He has the child of an important, and wealthy sponsor of the Hero Association, Narinki, to hold hostage under the threat of death. All so they can lure in the heroes and have them all killed to demonstrate the Association's might.
- He punished Awaken Cockroach with death for fleeing from a fight, stabbing him with one of his horns and then eating him alive as Awaken begs for mercy. All in front of the other monsters, threatening them with the same fate should they fail him. He later tried to eat Do-S for a similar folly, but was convinced to spare her solely because of her useful skill of brainwashing people.
- When Garou was offered a membership in his ranks, Orochi task him with killing one hero to prove himself. When he fails to do this, he beats Garou within an inch of his life (after killing some of his own minions during their fight), and gives him to Gyoro Gyoro to brainwash.
- He continues eating more of his minions, when they refuse to fight the heroes out of cowardice. With Gyoro Gyoro threatening the others if they continue showing cowardice.
- He plots to usurp Psykos/Gyoro Gyoro so he can cement himself as the sole leader of Monsterkind. To do so, he needs a worthy sacrifice to an ancient altar so he can ascend to godhood, of which he saw Saitama as this sacrifice and tried to use him as a blood offering.
- After being defeated by Saitama, he vowed revenge and began consuming the remaining monsters in the building in a painful, body-horror induced fashion to regain his strength. He then tried to do the same to Psykos, until being fused with her thanks to the machinations of "God".
- The fused Psykos and Orochi attempts to assimilate all life on the planet, until they become the Earth itself. They began consuming everything in their path, from entire buildings to living beings as well. During their fight with Tatsumaki, they fired a blast that sliced a chunk of the planet, and critically injures her to the point she is too weak to fight back against the remaining members of the Monster Association.
- While it was Psykos's plan to begin with, Orochi does the bulk of the assimilation and helps in the fighting.
- When they get defeated by Genos the Demon Cyborg and Tatsumaki, they decided to flee to a nearby city to consume the blood of as many humans as possible to rejuvenate themselves, until finally getting defeated by the combined efforts of the S-Class heroes.
