The descendants of Nagi have kept me imprisoned here for 100 years. Yet it is that accursed bloodline which shall unleash my true power. A pact between Nagi's descendant and I, the great Orochi, shall deliver unto me dark powers beyond all comprehension.
~ Orochi

Orochi, later known as True Orochi, is an eight headed dragon and one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Ninetails) of Ōkami.

It is a powerful demon in the land of Nippon, being a devout servant of the dark lord Yami and the being responsible for the destruction of the Celestial Plan. Following a battle with Amaterasu long ago, Orochi was dragged down to the mortal world and took refuge in the Moon Cave. For over one hundred years the beast terrorized Nippon, demanding that once a year an innocent maiden from Kamiki Village be given to him in order to consume her and one day achieve Godhood.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He attacked the Celestial Plane and spearheaded the Ark of Yamato genocide alongside an army of demons.
  • After being dragged down to Nippon by Amaterasu, he took refuge in the Moon Cave and acquired an army of imps in order to lay waste to the mortal world.
  • Desiring to achieve Godhood, Orochi found that he needed to perform an annual ritual that involved eating a maiden. To achieve this, he targeted the nearby Kamiki Village, demanding once a year that a maiden be offered for him to consume or else his imps would attack the villagers, something that went on for one hundred years.
  • Amaterasu and Nagi eventually went to face Orochi together after he requested that Nami, Nagi's lover is taken by him, and while they were successful in slaying the beast, the injuries Amaterasu sustains from the battle ultimately lead to their demise.
  • One hundred years later, Nagi's descendant Susano accidentally revives Orochi by removing the legendary blade Tsukuyomi which Nagi had used to seal Orochi's spirit in the Moon Cave. Orochi's first act after returning to life is to unleash a curse upon Nippon which turned people to stone and blocked out the sun.
  • While Amaterasu returns to life and manages to dispel the curse, Orochi's strength manages to increase enough to where the beast once again requests a maiden from Kamiki Village to be brought to him, with this ritual being the final one needed in order for him to finally achieve Godhood.
  • He requests that Kushi, Susano's lover come to the Moon Cave for the sacrifice. While he prepares to devour her he demands that an appetizer be given to him by the imps that serve him, and will even eat them if they fail to please him.
  • When confronted by Amaterasu and Susano, Orochi attempts to sway Susano to his side, wanting to make a blood pact together so that his full power will be restored. Susano refuses, and Orochi proceeds to try and kill both him, Amaterasu, and Kushi.
  • Upon finally being slayed by Susano once and for all, Orochi's last act is to release the spirits of Blight and Ninetails onto Nippon, causing more destruction even after its death.
  • Orochi's dark spirit still exists on the Ark of Yamato and tries to kill Amaterasu when she boards in order to reach the dark lord Yami.
