Orgodemir or Orugo Demila in Japanese otherwise known as the King of All Demons and self-proclaimed King of All Beings and Ruler of The Heavens is the main antagonist and final boss of Dragon Quest VII. He is the one responsible for sealing all the lands from existence (except Estard) and then sent forth monster underlings that would cause the people in their own civilizations to bring their downfalls. He is also the one who disguised himself as The Almighty when he returned in the second part of the game.
History[]
Long before the game began, Orgodemir had set out to seal every land in the world into darkness. He was opposed by The Almighty and the four elemental spirits of Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind. The Almighty was defeated, with the spirits scattering to who knows where. However, before The Almighty was cast into darkness, he had created the Shrine of Mysteries which was the system that allowed all the lands that were cast into darkness by Orgodemir to return if the heroes were able to solve the mystery within that particular land.
Characteristics[]
This section is too long. Visit here for more details: Orgodemir's Synopsis on the Villains Wiki.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Was the main source of evil within Dragon Quest VII as he manipulated the world and its people centuries ago to become more powerful than The Almighty, which was the reason, Orgodemir had usurp The Almighty's position and became the master of fates for all humankind and other living beings.
Past[]
- Had waged war against the world which resulted in thousands of deaths of humans, and anybody else having the courage to fight for The Almighty.
- He plunged the continents into darkness (excluding the Kingdom of Estard) not by sheer power but by sending eighteen of his underlings to pull some strings on the continent’s settlements to ultimately cause people to destroy their own civilization, while making the people lose hope in The Almighty and have only beings that serve the demon king (Orgodemir) survive.
Basically, he had caused the entire world to shrink into just a tiny island. Which that started Arus's adventure to figure out why only the Kingdom of Estard had existed, but Orgodemir has done much worse in the erased lands.
Conflicts in The Erased Lands[]
- In Ballymolly, he corrupted Mavee into a Fright Knight and was the reason behind the girls in the village going missing. Later, she had to be killed in order to have the missing girls return.
- In Emberdale, he sent the Glowing Inferno monster and caused Mt. Burnmont to erupt after the people there threw torches into the volcano to worship the Father of the Flame during the festival. Had it not been for Arus, Kiefer, and Maribel defeating the Glowing Inferno and using Pike’s mysterious liquid to drive the black smoke that accumulated when the torches were thrown, Emberdale would have been destroyed.
- In Regenstein, he caused the "gray rain" to turn almost every person and animal to stone. While the town itself was able to have light shine on the town, that wasn’t enough to solve the problem. Hence why in the present world, the heroes are requested to find any people that want to move to a different place to build the town which would eventually be known as The Haven.
- In L’Arca, he sent Hacrobat to attack the town. The white wolves there succeeded in defeating him and the monster was later sealed in a coffin within Grotta del Sigillo, but at the cost of many wolves dying. Later, the coffin was opened and not only the wolves that once sealed Hacrobat were killed one by one, but also the monster cast a spell to change people into animals and vice versa. Which necessitated the heroes getting The Woodcutter in Pilchard Bay near Fishbel village to communicate with the people who got turned into animals (one of the clues to find Hacrobat and stop him with Gabo later on).
- While Orgodemir didn’t cause the people there to transform to animals and vice versa, he still holds responsibility for sending Hacrobat there in the first place and the latter events caused by the minion he sent to L’Arca.
- Orgodemir had also been responsible for the deaths of innocent people in Frobisher including children. Which had the King of Faraday send the heroes to defeat the Automatons in their base and also send Zebbot to discover how they were created. While the Tinpot Dictator was the reason behind the assault on Frobisher and the summoning of the Slaughtonmaton when he no longer cared for what would happen to Faraday and so on. Once again, Orgodemir holds responsibility for the Tinpot Dictator’s reckless assault.
- In Greenthumb Gardens, he has a Rainiac turn everyone there into stone and have the heroes defeat the monster and use the Angel Tears to turn people back to normal. He might have also been the reason for Cayenne’s fortune being lost.
- Had also erased one of the shrines which was where the people in Roamers Camp was supposed to resurrect The Almighty and later, might have been the reason why Kiefer died after departing from the party forever.
- In Alltrades Abbey, he sends Cardinal Sin who is disguised as the high priest of the temple at first and offers the heroes the ability to select and change classes. Little did they know that the water they had gone into stole all the magic they had and trapped them into a village with all the other people who got manipulated by the same person in the same way called Pilgrims Perdition. He was also responsible for having the village force anybody there that came to Pilgrims Perdition into a losing battle against Strom as a way of welcome. The king of the dirt clod enforces one ironclad rule: those who succumb to the monsters' temptation of using the Soulstealer sword to drain five humans of their lives and be allowed to leave are killed. Everything else goes in perdition, leading to a life of fear and misery for the weak.
- Meanwhile, he had the real high priestess that was going to take back Alltrades Abbey taken hostage by Inop and Gonz. The Cardinal Sin has also done heinous actions within the temple, for every person falling victim of The Cardinal Sin’s cruel rules of gaining the magic back also falls under Orgodemir’s shoulders as well.
- It’s heavily implied that the soldiers in La Bravoure have also lost their loved ones caused by Orgodemir. Which can be the reason why most of the soldiers that had fought against Orgodemir. Either that or they went there to protect their families.
- Orgodemir had sent Setish the Punisher to place a curse on the Temple Palace in the sand kingdom by placing the dark ruby on The Likeness (The Sphinx dedicated to the Earth Spirit) not only making the Temple Palace look like an abandoned temple but also causing a devastating sand storm to blow into the village of Al-Balad while recarving the The Likeness to the Image of The Devil and only after the defeat of Setish did Al-Balad been rebuilt and the Temple Palace to have the Queen there back.
- Almost had the people in Gröndal cut down the world tree otherwise known as Yggdrasil by having the Stranger whose true form is a Fighting Baboon persuade the people in the village to drink the suspicious water in their well which caused them to go insane. It was only when the heroes had defeated the Well Wisher below Gröndal to get the villagers there come back to their senses before defeating the Fighting Baboon that tried to burn the village with every living being there present even the heroes and children.
- In El Ciclo, Orgodemir had The Time Sage make time in El Ciclo go in a constant loop, which got Arus, Gabo, and Maribel to enter the mysterious realm The Time Sage had resided in to fight him and his minions in order to destroy to the hourglass that causes time in El Ciclo to stop after deactivating the clock tower in El Ciclo, with the only exception of the heroes not being affected by the time stop.
- Had sent Gracos to Wetlock and later was responsible for Gracos nearly causing the deaths of every life on Wetlock by causing a flood to spread. Had it not been for the bard in Wetlock evacuate everyone including the heroes to an inaccessible tower somewhat northeast of Wetlock, everybody would have sunk with the village and everything else the flood touched.
- Once again, Orgodemir is still responsible for Gracos’ reckless actions and the near extinction of all life on Wetlock and the heroes wouldn’t have been able to go to The Medal King’s Castle to trade tiny medals for different prizes in the present world nor be able revive Melvin in Wetlock’s tallest tower.
- Orgodemir also had Skraw the Mandrake Mercenary and its army initiate a devastating assault on Providence and destroy the Goddess Statue while they disguised themselves as soldiers from the Rucker Empire, causing hundreds of casualties even though the people in Providence fended off many of the monsters. Then was later responsible for the death of a priest, caused by the same monsters that attacked Providence when the poor priest deemed that monsters are after him and had faced them all by himself.
Skraw later destroys the Goddess Statue even after his defeat. He had said the quote "I will serve my Lord even in death!". While Skraw stated he would serve the Demon King even after Skraw's death, it's likely Orgodemir had forgotten how loyal he was. Which goes to show the audience he had no appreciation for his subordinates’ efforts and sacrifices or anything else they do to serve him.
- In Nottagen, Orgodemir sent monsters to terrorize the citizens there and had caused the sky there to darken, while also placing Moostapha in charge of the village and Sulkk to be in charge of the tower on the west side of Nottagen and guard the light of Nottagen.
- In addition to those evil actions, he is also responsible for the Malign Vine terrorizing Nottagen after the heroes find out there was more problems going on in Nottagen and later responsible for some of the people there to try and persuade the heroes to kill Wiggles, even though the creature was going to protect the village from a future attack on Nottagen. Had it not been for the heroes choosing to spare Wiggles, Nottagen would have been destroyed permanently when the heroes go back to the present day of Nottagen the third time.
- In Hubble, there were two horrible things revealed. One was that Rucker Castle had been filled with monsters and hence the reason behind the assault on Providence, and the second horrible thing revealed was that the Envoy who is one of his servants plotted to turn King Hybris into the god of destruction, using the forbidden incantation called Manastis which was once sealed away due to incantation leading the fragmenting of the island. King Hybris almost destroys the whole kingdom of Hubble, if it weren’t for The Wizz learning the Great Leveller to weaken Hybris enough for the heroes to defeat him and have him snap out of it, The Kingdom of Hubble and more would have been in ruins.
It is also implied that Rucker Castle was under Orgodemir's control meaning that he could've also been responsible for Hybris' childhood friend, Lucia's death too. If that is the case, then he is also responsible for King Hybris' idea of gaining the power to resurrect her.
- In Aeolus Vale where there are winged humanoids that can fly and belong to the Cirrus tribe, who were given the gift of flight from the Wind Spirit, Orgodemir sends in Vaipur to guard the Sacred Stone in the Sullied Sanctum as it was stolen so now the ones born within the Cirrus tribe who can’t fly can’t fly at all because they lost the stone that also allows them to fly. It gets worse when Vaipur turns out to be alive and has become Cumulus Vex whom darkened the sky Aeolus Vale which might've also gotten anybody who inhaled enough of that dark oxygen to fall ill.
- In Vogograd, he sends Gasputin to make a deal with a priest in their church to switch bodies so that Gasputin would stop attacking the village when in reality, it was to get a mob there to kill what they think is a monster when it's actually the priest that switched bodies with Gasputin. After the mob kills the priest, Gasputin planned to feast on the people in Vogograd with no hope left since the heroes had listened to Luka and were locked in Mt. Tor with Luka. Which proves that Orgodemir is responsible for the near decimation of Vogograd.
- In Buccanham just before the heroes confronted Orgodemir, he had sent Togrus Maximus and Mossferatu for the purpose of causing destruction in Buccanham. Not only does the Demon King (Orgodemir) have Mossferatu get the newly spawned monsters to eat the mosses beneath the dwarves’ hideout but also placed a curse on the newborn babies to become monsters on the first night after every full moon which was the reason why Alma had been devastated when her child which was in reality was a Lesser Demon which terrorized her and Sharkeye, her husband then later left to join the monsters that terrorized Buccanham. Orgodemir holds responsibility for every single newborn baby that became a monster and also any casualties caused by the newly created monsters.
- He also cursed Sharkeye with the devastation within the family for his opposition years ago.
- At some point he probably had some of the monsters within the Excavated Cave underneath the Dig Site in the present time of the Roamer Country attack the people that were in the cave. Which later had King Burns, who is the King of Estard, task the heroes (Arus, Gabo, Aira, and Melvin) to find out what’s going on in the cave.
- Even though Orgodemir offered the heroes to leave his throne room when they first encountered him, it was only to mock them and their faith in The Almighty that had fallen many years ago, so therefore he has no honor, respect, or love for any living beings. Not to mention, we don’t hear Orgodemir mention any of his minions and/or their loyalty, efforts, or sacrifices (if any were given) to him.
Present[]
- After resurrecting The Almighty or so the audience thought, Orgodemir wasn’t actually defeated fully. It was because of disguising himself as The Almighty, he was able to be worshiped by the world as the "Almighty".
- Once the Cathedral of Light was finished with the constructions, he invited representatives from all nations to hear him speak. He tells them that he is the Almighty and that evil has been defeated. He instructs them to dispose of their weapons as they will have no need for them and not to take the life of a human or a monster. Orgodemir, as the Almighty, then asks Arus and his companions to give him the Dark Ruby as it is evil.
- Little did the heroes, and the representatives know that the so-called “Almighty” is actually Orgodemir and placed the Dark Ruby back into The Likeness (the sphinx in Dune) and plunged the world into darkness, again. With Melvin being charged for treason against their God even though Melvin didn’t and almost executed him had he not jumped off the Cathedral from a medium height and managed to survive.
- Orgodemir plunging the world into darkness yet again with this time sealing away the Kingdom of Estard as well (unlike the first time Orgodemir sealed the lands) and had led to the deaths of thousands and more. Which had necessitated the heroes to awaken the four spirits; Fire from Emberdale, Earth from Dune, Wind from Aeolus Vale, and finally the Water from Fishbel after awaking the other three to reveal The Almighty’s true appearance.
- In overconfidence, ambition, and cruelty, he flicks all the four spirits to who knows where and recreates the Cathedral of Light to the Cathedral of Blight, serving as the final dungeon the heroes had to travel to in order to confront him again.
- Had stated that The Almighty everyone once knew had been cast into eclipse of darkness and that the only way for him to “spare” their lives is to worship him knowing that he wouldn’t care for anyone’s will to worship him and that he would plunge their lives into further chaos without remorse, while boastfully claiming himself to be the King of All Beings and Ruler of The Heavens…
- Had attempted to kill Arus, Gabo, Aria, (either Maribel or Melvin) again when they go to confront Orgodemir to put an end to his reign once and for all.
- In the end, Orgodemir wonders why he was defeated and postulates that the party could be the actual Almighty before he dies ending his reign of terror. However, the death is not played for sympathy as he has crossed the line of redemption on multiple occasions.
- While he is a demon himself, hence why he’s called the Demon King, he had to have plotted the destruction of The Almighty, meaning he had a thought process (Otherwise he couldn’t have planned this all along) and in addition to that thought process, Orgodemir, unlike most of the Dragon Quest main antagonists, knows what he’s doing is creating massive threats to the world and never cared to stop the chaos or call off any assaults his subordinates had initiated. Especially the insanity that Cardinal Sin had done, who is also another pure evil antagonist for his reasons.
- Due to all of this, we can confirm Orgodemir had to possess a moral agency and therefore qualifies.
Trivia[]
- Orgodemir, along with Cardinal Sin, are the only two pure evil characters within Dragon Quest VII.
