The Orb is a supporting antagonist in the AvM Shorts, serving as the main antagonist of the Season 2 finale "Lucky Blocks" and the Season 4 episode "Lucky Block Staff".
It's the ruler of the dimension inside the Lucky Blocks, which comes to life through possessing Yellow's body and seeks to spread chaos throughout the computer, possessing the other stick figures and creating other Orbs to do so. Years upon its defeat, the Orb returns when Red puts a Lucky Block on Yellow's staff, resulting in a final battle that ends with the Orb's total defeat.
What Makes It Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Despite seeking nothing but destruction, it has a moral agency as it's able to spawn good creatures such as friendly wolves, showing it's committing all its evil acts willingly and out of sadism.
- While it doesn't display tons of personality compared to other characters, it's still shown to be sadistic, cocky, and eager to fight, and thus has the personality needed for Pure Evil.
- While not as heinous as some other villains, like the Dark Lord, it stills easily passes the Heinous Standard due to having a high amount of kills and fates-worse-than-death despite appearing in only two episodes. While not the only villain to put the heroes in an "And I Must Scream" scenario and it easily could have done worse at the end of "Lucky Block Staff", the Orb still stands out because it was sentient for fifteen minutes at best and was busy trying to fight the Stick Gang, and thus didn't have much time or opportunities to commit as many crimes as other villains.
- Despite having a few comedic moments, it's mostly played seriously. This also extends to its first defeat, as while being defeated by a superpowered pig might sound comedic on paper, it's played seriously and for suspense while showing how powerful the Orb is, having almost killed the pig and only losing at the last second. Even then, its defeat in Season 4 was much more serious.
Lucky Blocks[]
- After taking control of Yellow's body, it shoots out six mobs that explode and die upon impact.
- Tries to kill the Stick Gang and take over their bodies throughout the entire episode, and spawns various hostile mobs, including Withers, to do so. At one point, it tried to drown Red in lava and walked closer to get a better look.
- It personally takes control of Blue, Green and Red through cloning itself to create more Orbs, and is indirectly responsible for the Second Coming being possessed, as he was defeated by an Orb-controlled Blue.
- This also makes it directly responsible for the crimes of the other Orbs, which include killing two creepers, possibly a pig and even a baby zombie, which makes the Orbs some of the only child murderers in the series, the only other being King Orange. It's possible the other Orbs committed even more kills when protecting the prime Orb when it was taking control of Red's body.
- It also makes it indirectly responsible for the death of a magma cube, as one was killed by the Zombies spawned by the Orbs.
- What's worth to note is that all the stick figures are still conscious during possession, although as ghosts, and are trapped within prisons; if not for Yellow keeping his inventory while a ghost, they would've been forced to watch as the Clones possess their friends. The Orb is aware of this, as it has seen Red being given equipment by the spirits of the Stick Gang, simply challenging the stick figure to a fight.
- During Red's last stand before possession, it personally kills a dog, a bee, a slime and three magma cubes.
- It and its clones tried to kill the pig Red spawned seconds before possession.
- While one could say it redeems itself at the end of the episode once returned to its home dimension, as it goes back to simply spawning items, nothing confirms this and the scene is too ambiguous to call it a redemption, and it's possible the Orb just stopped being sentient and returned to being a mindless object. This is fully debunked when it returns in Season 4 when it regains its sentience, wanting nothing more than revenge.
Lucky Block Staff[]
- Upon returning, it hijacks the Staff so it could return to the PC and get revenge on the Stick Gang by killing them, sending out hundreds of mobs after them.
- It spawned an Enderman with a pumpkin on its head, which visibly made him angry/uncomfortable, possibly even painful and torturous.
- When fleeing to the Lucky Dimension, it crushed six mobs to death.
- It spawned numerous counts of mobs (both monsters and animals including baby zombie villagers) and sentient objects in an attempt to kill the Stick Figures, causing all of their demises.
- It ultimately trapped the Stick Gang inside bedrock prisons, likely wanting them to stay there and die a slow death.
- Its actions resulted in Beeper sacrificing his life to save the Stick Gang.
Trivia[]
- The Witch and the Orb are similar in many ways. Both are Pure Evil enemies of the Stick Gang who started out as one-shots before returning in later episodes (The Witch in "The King" and the Orb in "Lucky Block Staff", though one as a cameo while the other as the main antagonist), put the heroes in fates worse than death by somehow influencing their bodies (The Witch transforming them, the Orb possessing them) before being stopped by a superpowered pig. Fittingly, the Orb is the final antagonist of Season 2 while the Witch is the opening antagonist of Season 3.
