Opal Koboi is the main antagonist of the Artemis Fowl novel series by Eoin Colfer. She is the main antagonist of books 2, 4, 6 and 8. Opal is a megalomaniacal pixie who desires world domination.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- During the Spelltropy plague, she refused to distribute the cure unless given a large amount of money.
- She harvested near-extinct animals to gain power, using gruesome ways to do so, namely genetically modified super leeches in order to extract the brain fluid. She tried to harvest Artemis's brain fluid for moisturizer using the same method, and it is heavily implied she has done this to a human before.
- She put Descant in a cage with a wild hog for the petty reason of not complimenting her new boots.
- She stole the memories Mulch Diggums had made over the course of the 3 days with Artemis and Holly in a rather painful way, and did the same to Mervall and Descant when they tried to desert her.
- She possessed Angeline using her powers to imitate spelltropy and trick Artemis' younger self into giving her the lemur, Angeline was fully aware of what was happening as she said it herself.
- And nearly caused permanent damage to her as a result of it.
- She mesmerized Butler into incapacitating Holly and Number 1 and putting them into barrels of animal fat to suppress their magic, stopping his heart in the process. It's made very clear they were very uncomfortable through the ordeal.
- She made several vain and vauge threats as well as notes to herself, showing how far she was prepared to go, about stuff to do including:
- Shooting down the moon after the idea came into her head.
- Typing that she would possibly watch the world burn into her wrist computer after Mulch said that to her.
- Destroying the Fowl Estate twice after finishing with Artemis the younger and his companions.
- Ranting at Artemis' younger self saying she would take revenge on Holly, Julius, Mulch, and others.
- Telling Dr. Shulka to shoot Artemis, Butler, and himself.
- She installed cameras to hack the Operations Booth in order to trap and frame Foaly for the Goblin Revolution.
- She joined with Briar Cudgeon to attempt a coup of Haven City by remotely disabling all of the LEP's weaponry, allowing the goblins to attack the city and cause massive terrorist attacks.
- She's indirectly responsible for Briar Cudgeon's death when he flew into the plasma cannon pipe.
- Replaced herself with a clone in Argon's clinic, which is already illegal, in order too not be detected by any authorities.
- She killed Commander Julius Root and created a situation where it seemed as though Holly had killed him, and even temporarily make Holly think she did kill him.
- And she killed Scalene before this happened.
- She attempted to kill Artemis and Butler with a blue rinse/bio-bomb missile.
- She attempted to become queen of the humans by disguising herself as a human and then leading them to Haven City to cause genocide against the fairies by ramming a molten iron encased probe against Haven City, cutting it in half, and causing a war to kill the other fairies not killed by the probe.
- After Holly reunites with Artemis, she kidnaps them, puts them in handcuffs, and attempts to have them killed by trapping them in an abandoned tourist attraction filled with trolls.
- She treats Mervall and Descant terribly, even abandoning them on the chute wall when her plan failed.
- She sent 2 heat-seeking plasma rockets in one last attempt to kill Artemis, Holly, Butler, and Mulch before trying to escape.
- She spent her time in prison plotting her revenge against everyone who had opposed her and trying to take over the world.
- She escaped from prison by murdering her past self. The time paradox caused explosions of everything she built between her past and future times, shutting down the majority of fairy civilization and wiping out a large percentage of human technology, setting human civilization back several years in half a second. Thousands of humans and fairies were killed.
- She directly/indirectly killed or almost killed at least 4 people with the powers she obtained from killing her younger self:
- The first was when she went into the room with engineer Oskapy and vaporized him with her corona of black magic after getting angry.
- The 2nd was when she thought she shouldn't listen to such outlandish statements made by Pip/Gotter Dammerung and vaporized him with her plasmic power.
- The 3rd was when she saw Mulch's leg under The Cupid and tried to absorb the energy from the ship, levitate it, and have it come crashing down on him. And then sending Berserker infested rabbits to finish the job.
- The 4th time was when Opal gave Bellico a strand of black magic that she could use, so she knocked out Butler with it, and might have killed him if it weren't for the Kevlar in his chest.
- She sent Cabaline an ornate gift box filled with micro-organisms that create a high pitched buzzing that would essentially turn goblins into fire-breathing lizards, and would have effectively killed her if Foaly hadn't stopped it with a time-field created by a battery from a series used in the Artemis Fowl Siege.
- Plus their house was effectively destroyed in the process.
- She tried to possibly sadistically terrify Beckett by showing him her powers although it backfired.
- She sent a note to Artemis and Holly via a Berserker possessed bird requesting their presence at "The Great Cleansing" in order to put herself at an emotional advantage and so they would turn on themselves.
- She attempted to use the power of the Berserker Gate to cause the genocide of humanity in order to become queen of the fairies.
- She took sadistic pleasure in seeing Artemis drag a supposedly unconscious Holly, but turned out being Nopal, Opal's clone that she used to escape prison.
- Tried killing her clone, Nopal, after Artemis foiled her plan by commanding Oro to finish her off, although that ultimately backfired.
Artemis Fowl Film[]
Opal Koboi appeared as the main antagonist of the Disney's 2020 live action film adaptation of Artemis Fowl.
Trivia[]
- In chapter 18 of "The Last Guardian", when Artemis drags Holly (which is really Nopal disguised as Holly) down the hill toward Opal and the Berserkers, and Artemis trips and falls to the bottom, Opal remarks to herself that she felt bad for both of them and that she was proud of herself for having sympathy for others. If Opal hadn't remembered that Artemis and Holly had put her in prison and what she had to do to escape directly after, the fact she felt sympathy and was proud of herself for doing it would have disqualified her from being Pure Evil.
- She and Lord Teddy Bleedham-Drye are the only 2 characters in the direct Artemis Fowl franchise (not including Wishlist, W.A.R.P, or The Supernaturalist) to be considered Pure Evil.
