~ Opal's most famous quote, threatening Artemis Fowl in the trailer. |
Opal Koboi is the main antagonist of the 2020 Disney film Artemis Fowl, based on the novel of the same name by Eoin Colfer. She is a pixie who desires world domination and the genocide of humanity.
She was portrayed by Hong Chau.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- She claims to want to give wants to give the fairies the surface back, but this is out of racist views and a desire to rule both worlds.
- Her aforementioned racist views make her a hypocrite, as she views all humans as supremacists incapable of peacefully coexisting with fairies.
- She has no problem with killing others, even other fairies, further proving she is a hypocrite.
- She desired to end humanity by sending her army to the surface using the Aculos, the most powerful fairy artifact.
- She killed Beechwood Short for stealing the Aculos before she could get it. Although its done offscreen, this deed has a strong impact on the story.
- She kidnapped Artemis Fowl Sr. and gave his son Artemis Jr. three days to find the Aculos and give it to her in exchange for his father's life.
- Because of this, Koboi is also technically responsible for Artemis Jr. becoming a criminal, as the latter kidnapped Officer Short only because he had no other way to gain the attention of the LEP to find the Aculos for him so he could save his father.
- She got the corrupt Briar Cudgeon reinstated in the LEP, and forced him to infiltrate the LEP on her behalf with the threat of death.
- Ordered Cudgeon to lie that the executors had instated him in Commander Root's place, turning the soldiers against Root.
- Forced Cudgeon to send in a previously-captured troll to kill Artemis and his team.
- When the three days are up, she attempts to kill Artemis Sr. using magic. Luckily, Officer Holly Short uses the Aculos to teleport him home before she can do so.
- Threatened Artemis over the phone at the end of the film.
- She receives no comeuppance for her crimes. As sequels are highly unlikely due to the film's negative reception, Koboi will likely never be punished.
- Despite her very little screen time, Koboi gets a lot done in the film and has a strong influence on the narrative.
- Out of the film's three villains, Koboi, Cudgeon and the troll, Koboi is easily the worst. Cudgeon is merely a pawn being blackmailed into obedience by Koboi, and the troll is a feral creature with no moral agency.
