Omnipotus is a minor antagonist in the Image Comics series Invincible.
He first appears in Issue #27, where he fights multiple superheroes on Earth. At the mean time, Invincible is on Thraxa, where he meets with his dad Nolan Grayson. On Earth, Omnipotus arrogantly boasts his plans to destroy the universe in front of the superheroes.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Prior to his encounter with the heroes, he absorbed all the energy in his own universe, destroying it and leaving an empty void behind. This makes him the most destructive villain in the series.
- While we don’t see him destroying his universe, we do see the aftermath and, as described, it was left as a blank space with nothing remaining.
- He arrived on Earth with plans to absorb it of energy. When the superheroes arrive to stop him, he does not take them seriously and planned to kill them off by turning the rubble of buildings around them into monsters.
- He attacked the superheroes of Earth again with plans to destroy the universe and beat up all the heroes, only stopping from succeeding in his goals due to Invincible and Dinosaurus’s sudden interference.
- Although it’s possible that needs to absorb energy from worlds to satiate himself, not only is this not played for sympathy, but it does not excuse the sadism in his actions where he views them as sport rather than survival.
- While it could be argued that he’s comedic due to coming off as a parody of cosmic villains from DC and Marvel along with having a relatively anti-climatic defeat of being one-shot by Dinosaurus, he is taken completely serious in-universe and, while is defeat is anti-climactic, it is meant to showcase Dinosaurus’s strength as opposed to making Omnipotus look incompetent in any way.
Trivia[]
- Only the comic version of Omnipotus is Pure Evil as his TV version’s crimes are not fleshed out, serving only as a Generic Doomsday Villain who appears for a brief moment and lacks any of the characterization his comic counterpart had.
- He is based on the Anti-Monitor, another Pure Evil.
