Old Whateley is the posthumous overarching antagonist of the H. P. Lovecraft cosmic horror story The Dunwich Horror.
Villain Overview[]
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He gave his own daughter Lavinia over to Yog-Sothoth and she becomes impregnated. This traumatizing encounter also drove her to madness. She disappeared not too long afterward.
- He was heavily implicated to have murdered his wife.
- After Lavinia conceived Wilbur Whateley and his horrific twin brother, Old Whateley indoctrinates his grandson in the dark arts so that he would one day open the gate and allow Yog-Sothoth and the gods to enter their physical realm.
- While it is never thoroughly explained why he wanted this, it nevertheless shows that he is a completely psychotic demon worshiper.
