~ Octomus the Master. |
Octomus the Master is the main antagonist in Power Rangers Mystic Force.
He is the demonic master of the Forces of Darkness and the Ten Terrors, as well as the Supreme Ruler of the Underworld who sought to plunge all that is good within the universe into eternal darkness. He is the archenemy of Nick Russell, the Red Mystic Ranger.
He was voiced by John Leigh.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- He aims to erase all that is good in magic and plunge everything around the universe into eternal darkness, simply out of pure spite until everything descends to a desolated husk.
- He proves to be rather ungrateful of his minions, especially the Ten Terrors, upon expressing disappointment in their actions despite their best efforts of freeing him in the first place and he only kept his most loyal minions, like his right-hand man, judge, jury and executioner, Sculpin for example, for any further uses and doesn't react heavily to their deaths.
- He even created the Rule of Darkness, a cruel game where if one of the Terrors failed, he would have Sculpin execute the Terrors as punishment. If one of the Terrors dares defy his rules, the Master will not be pleased and, likewise, have Sculpin destroy them as a result.
- Despite being an Eldritch Abomination-like entity with dark magic, hence the Morfolks' alias "The Forces of Darkness", the narrative doesn't necessarily indicate he is Made of Evil.
- He has shown from time to time that he is perfectly capable of absorbing magic that is good and despite that, remains evil nevertheless, and it should be noted that Necrolai, a Morfolk, and Itassis, one of the Ten Terrors, are capable of understanding right and wrong, let alone redeeming themselves, followed with Matoombo, another of the Terrors, proven to be kind-hearted from the beginning at least.
- While he never appeared much until the finale, he has enough of a fleshed-out personality throughout his screentime other than his motive to plunge everything into darkness as he expresses cruel sadism, sociopathy, and his ungratefulness to his minions to where he's not considerable a Generic Doomsday Villain.
- He stands out in the Power Rangers franchise despite villains like Emperor Gruumm and Prince Vekar having done worse in terms of bodycount.
- Despite the resource gap, they have more advanced technology and bigger armies in comparison to Octomus, while a powerful dark magic entity but has the unique niche of having killed more than just one Power Ranger and his unique method of attempted omnicide.
Background[]
- He is likely indicated to be the one behind the Great Battle, a war between the Mystic Wizards and the Forces of Darkness that sees a presumable total of casualties by thousands and confirmation of four deaths, of which the victims were the original Mystic Wizards.
- There's evidence hinting he was last seen sealed away during the battle and Morticon, being his first servant, has led their forces under Octomus' order, making him responsible for thousands of deaths. It also had a devastating impact on the events of Mystic Force since:
- He would be indirectly responsible for the sacrifice of Niella, Udonna's sister and Clare's mother, as she used up all of her magic to seal away Octomus and his forces back into the Netherworld for the time being.
- This eventually effected Udonna to where she feared for her niece's safety as a promise upon grieving the loss of her sister.
- He is responsible for brainwashing Leanbow into becoming his loyal servant under the name of Koragg the Wolf Knight, forcing the latter to submit to his every command and tasking him with the goal of freeing him in the present, as well as his actions of trying to kill the Mystic Rangers, even his own son Nick, in the present. That even includes having zero memories of his wife and son until he was freed.

Mystic Force[]
- During the Great Battle, it is heavily implied he ordered his forces to capture and kill Nick Russell/Bowen, the Red Mystic Ranger, back as a baby out of fear of his potential given that he is "the light". This is further evident due to the Ten Terrors referring to him by the title in the present and trying to destroy him, which is super likely to be true.
- Tasked Koragg and Imperious with killing Daggeron, the Solaris Knight, and whoever does will earn his favor due to a trial regarding the former and then the latter at each other's argument. Choosing to be in Koragg's favor comes off as pragmatism at best since he still needed him around due to his usefulness instead of taking his side.
- Upon agreeing with Imperious' idea, he torturously absorbed the Mystic Rangers' magic out of them to empower himself and later tortures Udonna for trying to save them, it would've gone to the point he may potentially kill her had it not been for Koragg intervening.
- When Leanbow broke free from the brainwashing, Octomus painfully controls him once more and turns him back into Koragg to defeat the Mystic Rangers until he reverts back to Leanbow after remembering his son Nick/Bowen. When it did, Octomus bursts out from the ground to attack the Rangers before Leanbow imprisoned him inside his body.
- After the Ten Terrors retrieved his spirit from Leanbow, he chooses Matoombo, the most kind-hearted member, to be sacrificed for his return, and after Sculpin killed him, he bursts out of his body graphically till it explodes. Although Matoombo is later revived in the end.
- He telepathically showed Daggeron the devastating future of his timely death painfully out of spite, which is later proven true.
- He brainwashes Nick into becoming the new Wolf Knight just to spite Leanbow, forcing the Red Mystic Ranger into attacking the Root Core, endangering the villagers to where he nearly could've killed them, and later tries having him do so for a second time before Nick was freed.
- He attacked the Mystic Realm in an attempt to erase all good magic, even absorbing most of it, with the intention of killing the Mystic Mother (originally Rita Repulsa after Zordon cleansed her of her evil), which he thought he'd succeeded. Luckily, the Mystic Mother survived this event.
- He temporarily killed Leanbow and Daggeron in battle and dropped their corpses in front of the Mystic Rangers, especially Nick, out of cruelty to make them lose hope. Luckily, both of them were revived in the end.
- He forcibly time-traveled the Mystic Rangers into showing them the future where he plunged the Earth into darkness successfully.
- From a quick view of the events, the Earth ended up becoming a desolated husk with zero surviving humans and no signs of life out there, especially since most of the lands dried up and the oceans evaded, another means to make them lose hope.
- Absorbed the Mystic Rangers' Legendary Warrior powers and their Megazords of their magic, rendering them powerless to further their despair.
- Attempted to kill the Mystic Rangers, Leanbow, and Udonna for one final time until they regained their magic to defeat him once and for all.
Trivia[]
