Norman Stansfield is the main antagonist of the 1994 action crime-drama thriller film Léon: The Professional.
He is a corrupt DEA agent who deals and takes drugs. When Mr. Lando, one of his criminal associates, steals some drugs of his, Stansfield goes to his apartment and murders him and his family, minus his daughter Mathilda, who decides to avenge her little brother by going to live with her neighbour, an Italian hitman called Léon.
He was portrayed by Gary Oldman, who also played Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg in The Fifth Element, Carnegie in The Book of Eli, Vladislav Dukhovich in The Hitman's Bodyguard, and Mason Verger in Hannibal.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is a corrupt DEA agent who uses his position to deal drugs and take drugs, making him a hypocrite.
- It is implied that he worked with Tony before the film's events. This also implies that Léon himself could easily have worked for him in the past. Although this could be seen as Fridge Horror, irrelevant to the plot, this indicates that Stansfield possibly killed lots of people during his career.
- When he kills Matilda's family, he is brazen and arrogant. He also comes up with a rather unconvincing excuse for why he did it. When his non-corrupt colleagues directly asked him how it was that the criminal's family was killed along with the criminal himself, he could not come up with an answer, which indicates that his rationale is flimsy. This indicates that he is no stranger to this kind of thing.
- Slaughtered Mathilda's family when they couldn't provide him with drugs, and he would have killed Mathilda had she not deceived one of his men into believing that she lived with Léon Montana.
- This includes Mathilda's innocent younger brother, meaning he's guilty of child murder.
- While Mathilda's father, stepmother, and stepsister were jerks, with Mr. Lando actually being physically abusive with Mathilda, that doesn't justify killing them, or at least, he should have just killed Mr. Lando because he was the only one who wronged him.
- He doesn't care about his men, being as apathetic towards them as he is towards his own life. However, it is true that he was shocked when he learned his right-hand Malky had been killed.
- There are even several scenes in the film where it is clear that his colleagues are afraid of him, hinting that he might do to them what he does to his victims.
- While he does have some comedic moments, he is still treated very seriously in-universe.
- Attempts to kill Mathilda, in the DEA building.
- Tortured Tony to know Léon's whereabouts.
- Sends dozens, if not hundreds, of cops to their deaths to ensure Léon and Mathilda can't escape from their building.
- Attempted to kill Mathilda and successfully killed Léon at the cost of his own life.
