~ Nizam to Dastan |
Nizam is the main antagonist in the 2010 Disney live-action film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
He was portrayed by Sir Ben Kingsley, who also voiced Archibald Snatcher in The Boxtrolls.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Though he initially had a good relationship with his brother King Sharaman, Nizam came to hate him after saving him from a lioness back when they were kids as Sharaman nearly got killed by the beast for being so careless at that time. While he did save his brother's life, Nizam later regretted having saved his brother because if he had been killed, then he would have assumed the title of King of Persia upon adulthood. This led him to plot his brother's murder to take the throne.
- He decided to time travel to preclude his younger self from saving his brother so he could become king instead, even though this would erase his nephews Tus and Garsiv from existence and cause his adoptive nephew Dastan to have never been adopted into the royal family, although that action would destroy the world due to abusing the Dagger of Time's powers.
- He supplied faked evidence to Tus, Garsiv and Dastan that the holy city of Alamut was forging weapons for Persia's enemies, leading to an attack on the city. While all of Nizam's crimes from then on are later undone due the Dagger of Time, all the deaths caused during the attack on Alamut aren't, as Dastan was only able to time travel back to when he first grabbed the dagger.
- He gave Tus an embroidered robe for King Sharaman, leading Tus to give it to Dastan so he could give it to their father, which leads to Sharaman's death, as the robe was poisoned, and framing Dastan for it, leading Tus to set a bounty on his adoptive brother.
- He sent the Hassansins after Dastan, which led to the murder of his nephew Garsiv.
- When Dastan finally convinced Tus of his innocence and Nizam's fault with regards to their father's death, he murdered Tus to retrieve the Dagger of Time.
- In the climax, he reveals he knows the catastrophic risks of abusing the Sands of Time's power full well and doesn't care, arrogantly believing he could control the power and being completely willing to take that chance if it meant undoing saving his brother's life, erasing his biological nephews from existence and putting himself on the throne.
- He threw Dastan and Tamina off a cliff, which led to Tamina sacrificing herself so Dastan could stop Nizam.
- After time rewound back to the attack of Alamut, undoing the deaths of King Shamanan, Garsiv, Tus and Tamina, when Dastan denounced him for his treachery and revealed his plot to murder the king, he tried to kill Dastan for foiling his plans.
