Come on out, son. 'Cause no matter where you go or how fast you run, I'll always find you. What's it gonna be? You're gonna come face me here and now, and risk dying? Or you're gonna run away to save mama and risk losing everything by altering the timeline... including little Nora.
~ The Negative Speed Force sadistically taunting Barry Allen, while possessing Joe West.
They aren't gone, Eddie. They're waiting for you. Accept our power. And end the legacy of Barry Allen forever.
~ The Negative Speed Force finally convincing Eddie Thawne to embrace its power.
He lies! Kill him now! Take back what's yours. You hold the power now. Use it! End Barry Allen's pathetic existence! Remember what he stole from you! It can still be yours. All of it! It's what you deserve. Now! Kill him!
~ The Negative Speed Force tries to manipulate Eddie into killing Barry.

The Negative Speed Force is the overarching antagonist of the 2014-23 superhero television series The Flash.

It is a cosmic entity that has existed since the dawn of time, being the anthithesis of the Speed Force. Standing against everything the Speed Force stands for, the Negative Speed Force desires to bring destruction and chaos to all of reality.

While possessing Meena Dhwan, Joe West, Mark Blaine, Nora West-Allen and Eddie Thawne, it was portrayed by Kausar Mohammed, Jesse L. Martin, Jon Cor, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Rick Cosnett respectively.

What Makes It Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • It is responsible for Eobard Thawne's villainy by empowering him into becoming its avatar, enabling Thawne to commit all his atrocities while being perfectly aware of them and showing no remorse.
  • While it's called the "Negative" Speed Force, there's no evidence it has actual moral agency issues especially as it doesn't need to feed off negative emotions from an avatar. Its polar opposite/direct counterpart possesses full moral agency and even became a villain for a while, plus Eddie Thawne was able to redeem himself and being a hero despite still being the embodiment of the Negative Speed Force's power.

Season 5[]

  • It nearly turned Barry's daughter Nora into a monster like Eobard, forcing her to let herself be erased from existence.

Season 8[]

  • It corrupted Meena Dhawan into a sadistic villain for a while, nearly driving her to destroy a dam that would kill thousands of people before Flashpoint Thawne was able to get through to her.
  • It collaborated with the other Negative Forces to revive Thawne as the Negative Flash and kill Barry Allen once and for all, even if it meant causing armageddon on Earth-Prime through a massive energy wave drawn from all the Negative Force's powers.

Season 9[]

  • After Thawne got himself killed in the previous season, the Negative Speed Force blamed Barry and shielded him with cobalt radiation to painfully bounce him throughout time.
    • First, it took him to the year 2000 to relive his mother's death, knowing Barry couldn't save her without destroying the timeline.
    • It also possessed 2000 Joe West (Barry's father-in-law) to have him kill Barry with his own hands to force Barry to either let him do it or kill Joe.
  • It resurrected Eddie Thawne as an amnesiac in 2049 and manipulated him into discovering his true identity and believing his sacrifice was worthless and Barry had "stolen" the life he deserved.
  • It possessed Chillblaine to kill the rest of Team Flash, violently rendered Allegra in a coma and chased away Khione, the only person too powerful for it to handle.
  • It confronted Iris and bragged about how it’s going to horrifically kill her and her baby to erase the Allen family from existence.
  • It devastated the Speed Force on their realm to the point that the Speed Force's physical form was in constant pain before it was destroyed.
  • While possessing Chillblaine, it was confronted by Khione, but then it begins to taunt her that she can’t defeat it without killing Mark.
  • Once Eddie figured out who he is, the Negative Speed Force starts opening wormholes and manipulating him. One such wormhole killed Eddie's former detective colleague, Daisy Korber
  • It possessed the real Nora and revealed its true goal of making Eddie its avatar while attempting to kill Barry. Then it goes on a rampage to destroy Central City before Barry was able to free Nora.
  • It successfully corrupted Eddie to accept its crystal and become its new avatar, turning him into Cobalt Blue.
    • As Barry deduced, the Negative Speed Force didn't care about helping Eddie or remaking existence where Eddie was the hero, but simply wanted to grow unchecked without the Speed Force to stop it.
  • With Eddie, it was able to revive Barry’s old foes (Eobard Thawne, Zoom, Savitar and Godspeed) to distract Team Flash while they kill Barry, which would extinguish the Speed Force and annihilate existence.
  • It tried to manipulate Eddie into killing Barry once and for all, before he redeemed himself.

Trivia[]

  • From all the Pure Evils of The Flash, the Negative Speed Force is the sole one to not be a human being.
