~ Nathan Mags' determination while incarcerated |
Nathan Mags is the secondary antagonist of Ace Attorney: Beyond the Shadows. He is the leader of the Red Co. Syndicate which served as the main villainous organization of the game as well as the motivator behind Wade Waters causing the OG-4 Incident. He made his debut in The Smouldering Turnabout where he served as the culprit behind Matt Doore's murder. His actions would affect and end many lives in the process of his villainy.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Creates, expands, and grows his real estate business into an illegitimate company as a syndicate behind the scenes.
- Is suggested by Wade Waters that he killed many more people in the past. This act caused him to betray Nathan Mags and leave the syndicate.
- Partnered with the Rivales Family so they could protect each other in case they need to be bailed out if one is in trouble with the law.
- Hired crooked law enforcements such as Charles Fuzz and the syndicate judge to help him rig investigation and trials relating to the syndicate. Taking advantage of the dark age of the law to corrupt the system further.
- After Raymond Brett is killed by Matt Doore, Mags had Ness Tinline manipulate his friend Edward Crooke to defend Matt Doore after learning he was struggling to win. When Crooke eventually learned that the trial was rigged to acquit a guilty man while sending an innocent behind bars, he was completely demoralized to the point where being Nathan Mags' pawn was all he could ever do as a result.
- Ordered Marlow Dee to kill Wade Waters after finding out Waters planned to steal his funding in order to leave the syndicate. Despite intending to get Marlow Dee off the hook, when he learned Marlow was in on the scheme, he decided to rig the trial to get him executed instead. While Mags didn't know whether or not Marlow was truly innocent, it's evident that he doesn't care and made his decision solely to benefit himself.
- When he found out a subordinate named Emily Talle was an Interpol agent, he had her killed by causing a fire and trapping her inside.
- Killed Matt Doore when Prosecutor Talle was threatening him to talk about the fire incident that killed her sister in order to silence him.
- Attempted to kill Phoenix Wright when it appeared that he wouldn't back down from defending Stan Talle.
- Stole the note Emily Talle made during her investigations to the syndicate from Apollo Justice and burned it in front of Apollo and Athena as they watched in horror as the only lead Emily Talle gave before she died to incriminate Mags is destroyed.
- Attempted to get Brooke Keeper to lie about his alibi as she finally realized the true murderous man he truly is.
- When Mags is defeated, he attempted to get everyone else especially Apollo to think they're alike him as they too also threw away what they thought was right to bring Mags to Justice. His words would strike a chord with Apollo for the rest of the game.
- After learning Fuzz acted out of his orders, Mags spoke to him about it in jail. After realizing Shay Dee was behind Fuzz stealing the OG-4 Incident, he ordered Fuzz to kill him in exchange for rigging the trial to get Fuzz off the hook for a murder he committed.
- While he agreed to testify in Shay Dee's trial, his testimony is mostly him bragging about his villainy and confessing to even more deeds despite already being convicted for his past deeds showing how remorseless he is.
- When he realized that Wade Waters was alive, he decided to taunt him about his predicament and told him he would eventually end up like him once Apollo pins him as the culprit for Charles Fuzz's murder.
- While he does cooperate with the police to bring the syndicate down after his incarceration, it's only so he can avoid the death penalty.
- His affable and hospital nature is a clear facade meant for good publicity and to prevent suspicion from going his way. He drops it whenever others know of his true nature and is clearly hostile to them.
- While he admired Apollo enough to cooperate with Shay Dee's trial just to see him in action again, he also hates him, and his admiration is solely an obsession over the fact that he managed to best him and only wishes to see him do it again.
- While he had a hard past when he was a child due to growing up in poverty and struggling to survive, he's shown to grown past it and simply does his crimes simply because enjoys his evil nature.
Trivia[]
- Nathan Mags is unique in a sense in terms of the Ace Attorney Fanon scheme where his villainy levels with the heinous standards of the series while being connected to the canon in some way unlike other Pure Evils who set it much higher in their works.
