~ Shizuru about Nathan in the "Clean House" Quest. |
Nathan is a major antagonist of Genshin Impact mentioned in the "Clean House" World Quest. He is a Fatui agent who Pierro sent to infiltrate the Watatsumi Army base on Yashiori Island pretending to be a Sangonomiya Samurai, using a cover story that he joined due to hailing from Mondstadt and did not agree with the Shogun's regime, claiming to sympathize for the Watatsumi army against the Vision Hunt Decree.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Commanded several Orobashi fanatics to destroy the Narukami Pillars bent on escalating the Watatsumi-Shogunate war, leading to the deaths of thousands of people being afflicted by the Tatarigami.
- This led to the entirety of Yashiori Island and Higi Village becoming abandoned except for several people who tried to cure the Tatarigami due to the creation of a massive thunderstorm covering the island and the war remaining in a stalemate.
- Due to his actions, most of the people living on the island had suffered from untreatable illnesses, which can be comparable to Karmic Debt as they were from the remnants of deceased gods, leading to people like Washizu suffering from painful hallucinations, which led to Washizu becoming insane to the point where he would sacrifice passerby for his "god", only being put out of his misery being killed by the Traveler in the present.
- He also led the operation which provided Delusions to the Watatsumi army, being the one to infiltrate the resistance and provide the Delusions pretending to be their benefactors as ordered by Scaramouche to do so. This led to the deaths of several people including Teppei who aged to death from overusing his Delusion, solely to prolong and escalate the conflict.
- Overall, Nathan stands out due to his act of killing and poisoning thousands of people by unsealing the Tatarigami and providing Delusions to extend the Watatsumi-Shogunate war leading to the deaths of several soldiers with little to no resources compared to villains like Azar and Kujou Takayuki.
- And despite mainly following Pierro's orders, his act of unsealing the Tatarigami was his own idea since he personally researched the wards before commanding the Orobashi fanatics to vandalize them, preventing him from failing the standards to his boss.
- While he was thought to suffer from a significant lack of characterization, he is shown to not only have a clear motive which is to escalate the Watatsumi-Shogunate war, but also a clearly deceptive and arrogant personality, in addition to being shown to be intelligent enough to pretend to do it for the honor of their "god" while coming up with a plan to release Orobashi's remains.
