“ | This moment begins a new age of prosperity led by me... This is new progress. With me as the successor, beyond my existence, there is no value in having the existence of the Chozo. We are only discarding what is useless. And now, we are gathering partners brimming with youthful strength. With me directing the Space Pirates, they will be a perfect force capable of restoring true order to the universe. Forget about the Chozo, Samus. With you added to our power, we can build a new age for the universe. | „ |

Mother Brain (in Japanese: マザーブレイン, Mazā Burein) is one of the overarching antagonists of the Metroid franchise.
She is a cold and cruel artificial intelligence entity created by the Chozo. Early enough in the tale, she turned against them when the Space Pirates and Ridley invaded Zebes. Mother Brain saw potential in the pirates and decided that with their help, she could bring true order to the universe by "resetting everything back to zero".
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- Although she is an artificial intelligence being, from beginning to end she is clarified from to firmly understand right from wrong, thus confirming she chose to be supremely heinous and evil completely on her own.
- Even before becoming evil, she was already vile, cruel, and arrogant, as shown when the 3-year old Samus was brought to Zebes for the first time. Upon introduction, her only input on Samus was to say in a cold and cruel fashion that she would only last a few days on the planet before dying from the climate.
- Despite Samus managing to free the Lono Faria from the Space Pirates control, Mother Brain has her robot sentries burn them alive anyway in front of Samus.
- She betrays the Chozo when the Space Pirates invaded Zebes by joining the Space Pirates and helping them wipe out most of the Chozo on the planet.
- She attempts to mentally break Samus by declaring Samus a tool to her, calling herself her' parent just for creating the Power Suit to have her assist Mother Brain in taking over the universe.
- While she claims to be bringing order to the universe, as Grey Voice points out, her actions are done out of envy of other life and need to have control over all life, not a desire to make things better.
- She commands Ridley to kill Gray Voice by burning him alive while she mocking him by calling him a "flightless bird".
- She has her Space Pirates steal Metroids from the Galactic Federation, planning to use them to conquer the universe.
- She tries to kill Samus when she invades Zebes and when that fails, she sets the base to self-destruct upon her defeat, killing several of her own troops.
- Due to her cloning of the Metroids, they are still used as bioweapons after her defeat throughout the Prime games, including one that ended up becoming Metroid Prime, making her indirectly responsible for many of the events of those games.
- She has Ridley steal the Baby Metroid so they can once again use Metroids to try and conquer the universe.
- She nearly kills Samus during their final battle, only to be stopped by the Baby Metroid. In response, Mother Brain spitefully murders the Baby Metroid in front of Samus.
- Upon her death, she has Zebes self-destruct in a final attempt to kill Samus, killing all lifeforms on the planet at the time of the explosion, including her remaining Space Pirates.
- This also means she did not care about her fellow Space Pirate members, showing that she only viewed them as pawns like Ridley.
- While she joined the Space Pirates, she had no care for the Space Pirates or even Ridley, Kraid or the other high-ranked members of the Space Pirates, and only saw them as pawns for her goals (even though Ridley saved her from Gray Voice, althrough it was for pragmatic reasons, she didn't shown at least genuine gratitude or respect for Ridley). It also does not help that she wanted to control the universe only by herself, and it's also possible that she would have tried to kill Ridley if they succeeded on their goals.
- Much like Ridley, she continues to influence the franchise, even after her death.
- Her murder of the Baby Metroid traumatizes Samus, haunting her for the following few games, particularly Metroid: Other M.
- Her schematics were used as the basis for MB, who, much like the original Mother Brain, went rogue and killed her creators. Thus, Mother Brain is indirectly responsible for the events of Other M.
- In Metroid Fusion, the Metroids she cultivated and experimented on are used as the basis for the plans of the Galactic Federation.
Trivia[]
- A mural in the Ferenia region of Dread depicts Mother Brain overseeing a battle between the Mawkin Tribe and the Space Pirates. This implies that she is responsible for even more bloodshed than initially thought, and may even have some connection to Raven Beak, although the context of the mural was never unexplained.
