~ Moon to Cassie as she tries to free Sun. |
Moon, also known as Moondrop, is a major antagonist in the Steel Wool era of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, serving as a major antagonist in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, a minor antagonist in its sequel DLC Ruin, and the secondary antagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2.
It is the malevolent "night" persona of the Daycare Attendant, the animatronic who patrols the Superstar Daycare. Hence its name, Moon is a humanoid animatronic with a moon-shaped head who is active when the lights are off. The second persona of the Attendant, Sun, is afraid of Moon and seeks to keep the lights on to stop it from coming out.
Once the Pizzaplex was destroyed by Tangle, Moon was greatly damaged and became determined to never let Sun take control again, which resulted in its defeat at the hands of Cassie, who rebooted and merged them into one Eclipse.
It was voiced by Kellen Goff, who previously voiced Funtime/Molten Freddy back in the Scottgames Era, and he also voiced Diavolo in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Sylva in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Zagred in Black Clover.
What Makes It Pure Evil?[]
- In general, it constantly fights for Sun over control of their body, which is shown to be physically painful to Sun. By the time of Ruin, their fight for control never ends, with Sun being in pain as it speaks. Moon's also aware of it, as it also hurts when Sun takes over control.
- It apparently traumatized a child in the past to the point they can't sleep without the lights on and wet their bed frequently.
- It tried to attack Abe in the story "Bobbiedots, Part 1".
- Upon being awoken, it tries to hunt down and kill Gregory in the daycare, all the while chanting "bad children must be found/punished".
- While he seems like he wants to punish "bad children", it only makes him a hypocrite since he has done worse things than children like Cassie who didn't do anything wrong.
- It will continue to try and kill Gregory throughout the course of the game during the end of every hour.
- It is also implied that he has destroyed several S.T.A.F.F Bots and Glamrock Endos in his room, showing how aggressive he is.
- When Glamrock Freddy collapses to the ground, Moon proceeds to kidnap him and bring him to Vanessa (not before taunting Gregory by sadistically waving at the boy), and as a result had Freddy kept imprisoned with his head detached.
- What makes this worse is that it forces Gregory to go inside the Endo Warehouse, despite the place being filled with corrupted and murderous endoskeletons in order to get another security badge to get into Parts and Service, making it indirectly responsible for this event.
- In the "real world" levels of Help Wanted 2, Moon tries to kill the game's unknown protagonist (heavily implied to be Cassie's father).
- Moon is also the only Pizzaplex animatronic that is consistently hostile throughout the entirety of Help Wanted 2, as it was implied to be so bad that even its AR reconstruction of him (which is not the real Moon) does not even try to make itself appear good in any way.
- In Ruin, it tried to stop Sun for good by keeping it "trapped in a nap" forever, during which it's alone and still aware of their surroundings. Occasionally, you can hear Sun singing to comfort themselves while on the verge of tears.
- It tried to kill Cassie and prevent her from rebooting it.
- While it becomes the friendly Eclipse after being rebooted, this does not qualify as a redemption as it didn't want to change and was more or less replaced by Eclipse, who is their own person.
- While Sun has several comedic moments in its appearances (with the exception of Ruin), Moon is taken dead seriously throughout all of it's encounters and it's horrific crimes are never once played for any laughs.
- Unlike the other animatronics in the PizzaPlex, it wasn't hacked into following the Mimic's orders, meaning it has full moral agency and yet still commits evil deeds on its own free will. While Moon was programmed to be Sun's evil alter-ego, it doesn't diminish its moral agency as Roxy and Monty - both of whom were made for good - can commit evil acts (with Roxy still wanting to kill Gregory in ''Ruin'' and was willing to kill the ''HW2'' protagonist for not giving her a good makeup, and Monty murdering Glamrock Bonnie, both of which they've done without brainwashing), and thus it's safe to assume the same goes the other way around.
- While it isn't as heinous as villains like William Afton, the Mimic, Vanny, or even due Circus Baby to their higher kill count, it manages to stand out thanks to how uniquely horrible it's torture of Sun is and how little resources he has.
- While Moon helps Vanny get Glitchtrap, it's not mitigating as it's unknown if this is the real Moon due to the symbolic nature of this ending. Not to mention the implications that Help Wanted 2 took place before Ruin, where Moon would endlessly torture Sun in a fate worse then death, which proves this is not a redemption. Even if it was the real Moon, it was likely that it only did it for a pragmatic reason.
Trivia[]
- Moon is the first animatronic in the FNaF franchise to be Pure Evil that's not William Afton or anything to do with him.
- He is the also only Pure Evil character in FNaF to originate from the Steel Wool era.
- Ironically, Moon is voiced by Kellen Goff, who also voices the Pure Good Glamrock Freddy in the same game.
- Their voice actor also played Funtime/Molten Freddy from Sister Location and Pizzeria Simulator. who is Near Pure Evil.
- To highlight Moon's PE status, it's one of the two Glamrocks that are not redeemed or helped in any other way during the events of Ruin; Roxanne redeems herself, Chica can get her beak back, Sun is freed from Moon's torture, and Freddy already left the Pizzaplex in the main game. Meanwhile, both Moon and Montgomery Gator - the latter of whom is heavily implied to have murdered Glamrock Bonnie - are killed (though Moon's death is more metaphorical, in a "death of personality" sense).
