Mongul is a minor antagonist in the DC Animated Universe.
He was the tyrannical ruler of the planet War World, who would later go on to target Superman for taking away his leadership there. By targeting Superman, Mongul became a rogue of the Justice League as well.
He was voiced by Eric Roberts, who also voiced The Master in the Doctor Who film, and Ezechiel Pregzt in Alone in the Dark, while in Polish version he was voiced by Wojciech Paszkowski.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Blackmailed Draaga into being his champion by threatening to destroy his planet, causing the former rebel to lose his idealism.
- Forces multiple warriors to fight each other to the death in order to entertain the people and make them forget his nature, possibly by threatening to destroy the warriors' native planets.
- When Superman refused to kill Draaga by Mongul's command, he sent his robots to kill him and would have succeeded had J'onn not encouraged the crowd to cheer up for Superman.
- After Superman defeated his undefeated champion Draaga, he threatened to destroy Krypton but since it was already destroyed, he pressured him to purposely lose to him or else he would annihilate Draaga's home planet.
- Would have killed Superman in their fight had the rest of the Justice League not interfered and destroyed his death-cannon.
- Used a plant called the Black Mercy to trap Superman in a perfect world. He calls it a prison where a victim couldn't escape until they sacrifice their hearts desired, which would cause severe emotional pain to the victim. He also mockingly assumed that Superman was dreaming of ruling the universe instead of being a “hero”.
- Attempted to kill Batman and Wonder Woman, brutally beaten up Wonder Woman and would have killed her had Superman not woke up in time to save her.
- During his fight with Superman, he almost threw a huge stone on him for hesitating to kill him, until Wonder Woman and Batman came with the Black Mercy and put him under its control.
- Attempted to turn the entire Earth into a second War World.
Trivia[]
- Given his actions and the personal strife he has inflicted upon him, Mongul is one of the only villains in the entire DC Animated Universe whom Superman is openly willing to kill, with the only other foes who had such distinction being Darkseid and Reverend Amos Howell.
