NOTE: This page is only about his TV Show incarnation as the Videogame incarnation of Mongul was not voted Pure Evil, and thus only the TV Show's info and crimes should be put here. |
Mongul is an major antagonist in the Cartoon Network series Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
He is the tyrant ruler of War World, bent on gathering the best fighters in the galaxy for his gladiatorial or race games at the threat of blowing up their planets. Mongul is the brother of Mongal.
He was voiced by Gary Anthony Williams, who also voiced Riff Tamson in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Although he saved Jonah Hex by abducting him from the past, this was pragmatic, as he valued his skills and wanted to capture all the best fighters in the galaxy, with Batman being one of the targets.
- Despite Jonah Hex's successful capture of all the fighters for Mongul, the tyrant ruler betrays him. Mongul breaks his promise of returning Hex to the past, leaving him stranded in a time that's not his own.
- In a display of his ruthless power, Mongul forces all the captured fighters into a life-or-death gladiator battle against Steppenwolf, Mongal's champion. The outcome of this battle could mean certain death for the fighters.
- His relationship with his sister, Mongal, is negative. He refused to help her break free of the restraints from the robot horse and only took action after learning from her about Batman and Jonah Hex's plan to release all the prisoners and return Hex to the past.
- Mongul arrives at a room full of prisoners and a Time Machine, where Batman and Hex are to stop them from ruining his plan. This forces Jonah Hex to sacrifice his chance to return back in time by destroying the machine that freed all the prisoners, allowing them to take their revenge on Mongul and Mongal.
- Mongul created a Death Race on Earth and forced heroes, Huntress, Batman, Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), Green Arrow, Plastic Man, and Woozy, and villains, Catwoman, Joker, Gentleman Ghost (another Pure Evil), Black Manta, and his own champion Steppenwolf to participate.
- He created a couple of sadistic rules. Anyone who chooses to back out will have their hometown destroyed. Any racer whose transportation is out of commission will be transported to War Moon, where they will await their execution once the race is over. If his champion, Steppenwolf, wins, then he can blow up Earth with his War Moon. Otherwise, if any racer wins, then they get to rule Earth as they see fit. The final rule is no rule.
- When Batman uses a Batplane to keep going after saving himself from the fall, Mongul can disqualify him from it, showing that Mongul is a hypocrite, as Batman states.
- Mongul does not teleport Huntress to War Moon before supposedly falling to her demise because he sees that a race should have a death, which shows his sadism.
- Once Batman wins the race, Mongul immediately disregards his champion by blasting him with a beam, showing he doesn’t care for him. Also, he still intends to blow up Earth anyway, showing once again he is dishonorable.
- After the War Moon is destroyed and those heroes save all those villains, Mongul attempts to kill all the participants out of anger for foiling his plan before Batman beats him up and sends him to Oa to be imprisoned.
- Despite the series being lighthearted and with some comedic moments, Mongul is still taken seriously for his worst crime, attempting to blow up Earth.
Trivia[]
- The videogame incarnation of Mongul does not qualify as Pure Evil as, while just as heinous, if not arguably more so, his defeat is played for laughs to a much greater degree than his TV counterpart, being forced by Guy Gardener to drink from a baby bottle and then being hurled into his cell screaming.
