Melvin Richard Sneedly is the secondary antagonist of Dreamworks’ 35th animated flim, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, based on Dav Pilkey’s Captain Underpants book series.
He is a child prodigy and the smartest student currently attending Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, but is also the school's biggest tattletale/sellout when he assists Mr. Krupp for extra credits and is greatly disliked by lots of the students for this reason. He is also Professor Poopypants’ sidekick, and George and Harold's rival and "nerdy nemesis."
He was voiced by Jordan Peele.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Although Melvin is manipulated by Professor Poopypants as his sidekick, he was already a jerk before this and had a rivalry with George Beard and Harold Hutchins; he was also a tattletale, having told Mr. Krupp about their pranks. Not to mention that he was willing to participate in Professor Poopypants‘s plans to brainwash everyone for extra credit.
- While he is sometimes obedient, not disruptive during class, and enjoys studying, it’s only to hide his true nature as the only student who doesn’t laugh at Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, except that he is selfish towards George and Harold.
- Unlike his book and Netflix counterpart, the film version of Melvin Sneedly has no redeeming qualities, as he is an overall selfish boy who does heinous deeds to gain extra credit, to the point that he couldn’t even decide whether extra credit was more valuable than his own life even when the Turbo Toilet 2000 was malfunctioning.
- While he is loyal to Mr. Krupp and Professor Poopypants, it’s indicated that he is doing it out of pragmatic reasons, as only he partners with them to get extra credit, even if it means snitching on George and Harold’s pranks or brainwashing his classmates into a fate worse than death.
- While he claims to be standing up for "the man," by tattling on George and Harold, this clearly is a cheap excuse considering how quickly he turns to wanting to aid Professor Poopypants in his plans to destroy laughter.
- Though he has no sense of humor, it is never played for sympathy, and it does not give him the right to take that away from other people.
- Despite having serval comedic moments, with his character being a running joke about how he can't laugh, they don't detract from his villainy, as he is still taken very seriously in-universe.
- Despite being a minion of Professor Poopypants, he still passes the baseline as he's the reason Poopypants was able to succeed in his plans.
Film[]
- He allows Mr. Krupp to record the footage from the turtle camera that confirmed that George and Harold caused the Turbo Toilet 2000 to go rogue, which will allow Mr. Krupp to separate George and Harold in different classes to ruin their friendship, but just to get extra credit from him, rather than having standards against George and Harold’s pranks.
- He tells Professor Poopypants that he admired his teaching about getting rid of laughter due to his own personal hatred of laughter, which foreshadowed his true nature that he and Poopypants had in common, of getting rid of laughter.
- Despite suggesting that Professor Poopypants should use his Sizeirator 2000 to solve world hunger, the fact that he is willing to brainwash the whole universe proves that he doesn't truly care about world issues.
- He gives his Turbo Toilet 2000 to Professor Poopypants in order to enlarge it, and even helps him collect cafeteria leftovers to give power to his invention.
- When he and Poopypants are going to the school in the Turbo Toilet 2000, they throw a house over (likely killing anyone inside it) and kick a car across the street, endangering the driver inside.
- He uses a giant lightbulb on his head to help Professor Poopypants brainwash all of the children's laughter into mindless zombies, putting everyone in a fate worse than death, and does not show any remorse for it, which reveal he never cared about the students of Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, and even takes sadistic joy in doing so.
- When George and Harold are trying to reason with Melvin to leave his partnership with Poopypants, he tells Professor Poopypants that they are going to stop him, and doesn't join George and Harold when they are going to rescue him, due to all their laughter over the years of elementary school, showing that he is truly evil and irredeemable.
- Considering that the kids roll Melvin away while he is stuck in the giant toilet-paper, the cops arriving after the chaos ended and are scared away by the bird, and George and Harold never tell what happened to any adults. It's likely Melvin gets away scot-free with his crimes, making him a Karma Houdini.
Trivia[]
- His book and Netflix counterparts don’t count due to failing the heinous standards, being On & Off, and not being taken seriously as threats in-universe whatsoever.
