Join me and I will send you to battle. Defy me, and I will send you to oblivion.
~ Megatron's most famous quote.
Galvatron: I will live on while all the planets are totally annihilated.
Optimus Prime: But how?
Galvatron: I possess the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys, as well as the power to rule and create a new universe, the way
I want it.
Scourge: What about all your followers? How are you going to save them from the black hole's destruction?
Galvatron: Save them? Why would I
bother? If they're not strong enough to survive, that's their problem.
Override: You'd just desert your team?
Galvatron: You're right. They're
my team, and I can do with them as I want. I never promised that I would protect them.
~ Galvatron reveals his goals and his lack of concern for his own men.

Megatron, later known as Galvatron, is the main antagonist of the Unicron Trilogy, a trilogy of anime series based on the Transformers franchise.

He is the arrogant and power-hungry leader of the Decepticons who became sworn enemies with the Autobots - specifically towards their leader Optimus Prime, also his arch-nemesis. In addition to this Megatron was responsible for the Great War that ravaged Cybertron, having instigated that in the first place. While originally a leader who had a morbid respect for Optimus as well as displaying a twisted care for his own underlings, as the story progresses, Megatron's lust for power slowly turns him into a viler tyrant from each installment until becoming a power-hungry psychopath who cares for no one but himself - thus becoming the biggest threat to the entire universe behind Unicron himself.

He was voiced by David Kaye in the English dub, who also voiced the Predacon Megatron in the Beast Era, Cronus from Class of the Titans, Klunk in Secret Agent Clank and Mysterio in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. In Galaxy Force (Japanese and Korean Dub), he was voiced by Joji Nakata in Japanese and Si Yeong-jun in Korean.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • While he did have some redeeming qualities and had some heroic acts in Armada and Energon, he loses them all by the events of Cybertron.

Armada[]

  • For most of Armada, Megatron attempted to capture as many Mini-Cons as he can to enslave them all to his will, planning to enslave the entire Mini-Con race. To show how bad it is, Mini-Cons actually give screams of agony when forced to do anything against their will for the total subjugation of the universe.
  • Upon rescuing Wheeljack, he gaslighted him into thinking that Hot Shot abandoned him to die because he never cared for him (when in reality, Hot Shot tried to save him, but passed out due to the fire when he tried to do it alone since his superior at the time, Sentinel Major, didn't want him to be rescued for thinking it was too dangerous), thus leading Wheeljack to hold a grudge on Hot Shot until the series finale.
    • Said rescue wasn't even out of sympathy, but rather because he wanted to increase his army - as he saved him in exchange for his loyalty to him.
  • He constantly tortures Starscream. One day, his abuse on him was so brutal, that he would've died, had the other Decepticons not intervene. This and alongside betraying Starscream and leaving him at the mercy at the Autobots by Megatron would lead him to join the Autobots when he overhears about Thrust and Megatron betrayal and planning to do it again.
  • He is highly manipulative to his own men, most notably when he framed Starscream into attacking him, gaining the sympathy from the other Decepticons.
  • He makes frequent attempts to kill the Autobot's human allies, who were all kids. The worst case was when Megatron trapped them all in a torture ball of electricity to keep them in a state of suffering for as long as he can and make them as his pets, wanting to prolong their suffering just to see them suffer and then uses it as a bargaining chip for all the Mini-Cons. The Autobots then give up their Mini-Cons to save them, to which Megatron gladly backstabs to use them for future bargains he will gladly backstab.
  • Combining the powers of the three Mini-Con weapons to create the Hydra Cannon, Megatron would use it to destroy the Autobot base despite Starscream's protests that it will destroy the planet Earth and all it's innocent life present, which Megatron dismisses it as a so be it. When the Autobot base is at the other side, Megatron callously orders the cannon to have the very destruction of Earth as his main intention.
    • What's worse is that after this, Megatron would've used the Hydra Cannon to threaten other planets and be his signature weapon in universal conquest.
  • Upon rechristening himself as Galvatron upon gaining a new form, he attacks an Autobot base and kills dozens of Autobots in battle as well as forcing the remainder to hide underground.

Energon[]

  • Upon his return in Energon, Megatron callously beats Scorponok to near death to the point of brutally disfiguring and shattering parts of his face and then proceeds to use him as a human shield to "test his loyalty".
  • Megatron then attacks multiple Energon mines and raids it, razing all the settlements that were present.
  • In his destructive raid of Plains City, Megatron dismembers Hot Shot and was on the verge of ending his life.
  • Sought to use the Energon he raided to revive Unicron and use him as his weapon of mass destruction to conquer and destroy entire planets.
  • Lobs 3 asteroids to destroy Earth.
  • Ties Scorponok to one of them and then lobs it another time to lure Alpha Q into saving his life so Megatron could track his location, willing to endanger Scorponok's life and have him be burnt to death due to the resistance from the shield burning and vaporizing the asteroid.
  • Gleefully brainwashes Starscream, Demolisher and Cyclonus when they had compunctions serving him willingly, in which the process is, as seen on Starscream is certainly painful as Megatron thrusts his Energon blade at him and then tortures him to erase his free will, and is very much represented as a full-on mind-rape.
    • That is including that Megatron threatened to imprison Starscream in the darkness all alone for all of eternity, a fate worse than death as alternative if he doesn't submit to his blade.
  • Overall uncaring when many of the Decepticons got killed as a result of collision with the Energon shield, and dismissing the rest as mere cannon fodder.
  • Attempts to feed Cybertron to Unicron out of spiteful revenge for his previous defeat by Optimus.
  • Resurrects Scorponok as a loyal Decepticon, removing his previous loyalty to Alpha Q and have him attack Alpha Q's planets.
  • Gleefully tortures Inferno in order to strip him off his free will and be his mindlessly loyal Decepticon. When it was incomplete, Inferno was internally suffering upon suffering an identity crisis and unwilling to become a Decepticon that he ends up committing suicide to end his suffering and stop his reprogramming into a Decepticon.
  • Attempts to drain the Energon of all the planets Alpha Q restored, destroying them even though he knows it will undo the restoration of all the former life on the planets that Alpha Q was trying to do, with some even noted to have life starting to grow on them.
  • Destroys Dauntless Maximus when he enters the Super Energon chamber.
  • Laughs of the deaths of hundreds of Terrorcons serving him as a result of their lack of loyalty to him and then has Starscream sent in the Super Energon pool despite knowing the risks.
  • Attempts to use Cybertron as a battering ram to destroy all of Alpha Q's planets, managing to destroy some of them.
  • Brutally beat and abuses Sixshot every time he tries to destroy Optimus Prime against his orders. When Megatron grow large by the Super Energon, he crushes Sixshot to death like a bug.
  • While originally having multiple redeeming qualities in Armada, by the time of Energon and especially Cybertron, Megatron abandons them all to become a power-hungry psychopath who only cared about power and no one else, treating his own men as cannon fodder he can sacrifice without a second thought and gleefully tortures and brainwashes into servitude.
  • While Galvatron sacrifices himself to destroy Unicron once and for all by the end of Energon, it was not out of any altruistic desire to save the entire universe or genuine moral standards against Unicron to make him on & off, but out of a purely selfish, egotistical and pragmatic desire to prove nobody could "control the mighty Galvatron" as he says so himself and achieve his destiny and his new world to rule, so it isn't a Mitigating Factor.

Cybertron[]

  • Obsessed with godhood, Megatron sought to steal the four Cyber Planet Keys and the Omega Lock to accelerate the growth of the Unciron Singularity, a black hole Unicron created upon his death, to end up consuming the entire universe and annihilating all of reality, for the sake of remaking it in his image.
    • Megatron was willing to sacrifice every last one of his own troops with the rest of the universe for the sake of his godhood. As a result, out of sheer disgust for Megatron's cruelty towards his own men, even his most loyal henchmen abandoned loyalty towards him.
  • Tried to dishonorably kill Leobreaker when he was incredibly weakened by Scourge, which the latter objected to as a result.
  • Shoots and nearly kills Scattershot, Red Alert and Hot Shot, horrifically disfiguring and battering them up to the point where they are blinded by the cracks on their bodies reaching their optics/eyes.
  • When Scourge warns him fighting Starscream and clashing their magics will result in tearing apart the Earth and destroy it, Megatron still proceeds to use his power at the maximum to kill Starscream, willing to doom the Earth and destroy it as a result for his revenge against Starscream and get the Omega Lock.
  • Banishes Starscream to a hellish dimension to get the Omega Lock with all four Cyber Planet Keys in possession.
  • Using the Cyber Planet Keys to begin accelerate the Unicron Singularity and have all of reality annihilated upon shielding himself from the blackhole using the shield, Galvatron pulls the Jungle Planet from its original location to send it down to be devoured by the blackhole.
  • Spitefully tosses the Omega Lock and the four keys into the black hole to have them destroyed in hopes of still having the universe destroyed so he could remake it in his image.
  • Even with the Unicron Singularity sealed, upon encouragement from Starscream, Galvatron sets off to try again in his goals of destroy and remaking the universe in his image.
  • To begin his new crusade to systematically end the entire universe, Galvatron sets off to spitefully send the Jungle Planet hurling down into Cybertron by destroying the thrusters used to move it back to its original place, to have both planets be destroyed upon impact.
  • He fought against Optimus one final time and would've killed him, had the spark of Vector Prime not gave him enough power to fight back and kill him once and for all. However, his death isn't played for any sympathy as he truly deserved it for his unforgivable actions.

Trivia[]

  • He and Unicron are the only villains in the Unicron Trilogy to be Pure Evil. Ironically, both don't keep at Armada and only became Pure Evil by the time of Energon/Superlink.
  • While having the acts in Armada/Micron Legends to be Pure Evil, Megatron had some twisted care for his men, genuinely saddened by Starscream's death, even fell to depression when he finally kills Optimus Prime, and allies with the Autobots to save the universe and sacrifices himself to end Unicron's threat and gives Optimus the position of leader of the Decepticons as he knows he is the only one worthy. It was only until Energon/Superlink that Megatron became Pure Evil as he lacks the genuinely redeeming respect he had for Optimus and care for his own men, gleefully brainwashing Starscream, Devastator and Cyclonus back into villainy and dismissing the rest of his men as mere cannon fodder to sacrifice to the point of laughing when some of them die as well. Even his suicide to stop Unicron once and for all was out of sheer selfish pragmatism and egotistical desires to prove he is too mighty to be controlled and achieve his destiny and a new world to rule rather than an altruistic desire to save the universe or out of any genuine moral standards. This is made even more firm by Cybertron/Galaxy Force where he is called out as just a godhood seeking maniac caring about no one but himself and power, gleefully admitting he is going to sacrifice all his troops for this.
    • Some theory that could explain Megatron suddenly growing vile was due to Unicron's corruptive influence as he was trapped for 10 years in Unicron's body and donned the armour of Unicron in Cybertron, but other than being a theory not alluded much in the story, it only needled him and Megatron still chose to remain a villain and chose to don Unicron's remains as an armour in Cybertron, and Alpha Q too was trapped inside Unicron for years and was nowhere near as vile as Megatron, so he still keeps as Pure Evil regardless.
  • This and the Robots in Disguise version are the only versions of Megatron that are Pure Evil that come from an anime.
  • This is perhaps one of the most heinous iterations of Megatron on the basis of scale to date.
  • He is one of few Pure Evils to be Inconsistently Admirable alongside Light Yagami, King Edward V, Griffith and Movie Sentinel Prime. Him and Sentinel are also the only ones to originate from Transformers as well.
