Move and I'll--
~ Cobblepot's last words before Alfred kills him.

Mayor Oswald Cobblepot is the primary antagonist in the first volume of the Elseworlds comic Batman: Earth One.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Tyrannically ruled Gotham and controlled the city like a mafia, repressing the courts through fear and allowing crime to run rampant.
  • He used an insane serial killer named The Birthday Boy as his own private assassin, paying the deranged man in young female victims.
  • When Thomas Wayne wanted to change Gotham for the better by becoming its mayor, Cobblepot attempted to have him assassinated for running against him, not allowing another Wayne to disgrace the Cobblepot legacy.
  • When the Waynes went to the Monarch Theater on that fateful night, Cobblepot paid a corrupt cop named Jacob Weaver to cut the power to the cinema. This plot failed because Weaver had his men stationed at key points to kidnap the Waynes, but when they heard the gunfire, Weaver and his men fell back. But Bruce's parents were still murdered by an unknown robber, presumably Joe Chill.
  • It's implied that he is responsible for the murder of James Gordon's wife when the detective got too close to finding out Cobblepot's involvement with the Waynes' murder.
  • When Bruce became Batman years later, Cobblepot hired Birthday Boy to kill Weaver and not allow him to tell Batman about his crimes.
  • When Bruce confronted him at his residence, Cobblepot stuck Batman with a trick stiletto from his umbrella, then he removed Batman's cowl, revealing his identity, although he was never able to exploit Batman's secret because he was killed by Alfred moments later.

Trivia[]

  • He alongside his Penguin (Batman: Caped Crusader) counterpart are one of the two versions of The Penguin to be Pure Evil.
  • This version of The Penguin is not referred to by that name.
