~ Maurice tormenting Philip. |
Maurice is the main antagonist of the 2018 British psychological horror film Possum. He is the sexually abusive uncle of Philip Connell, the movie's protagonist.
He was portrayed by Alun Armstrong.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Not long after Philip's parents both died in a horrible fire, Maurice adopts him only so he could have Philip all to himself to fulfill his lustful and pedophilic desires.
- He sexually abused Philip throughout his childhood. All while wearing a mask while doing so as to not let Philip find out he was the one abusing him.
- He mocks Philip throughout the entire movie. Even once asking him to tell a traumatic childhood story, where a group of bullies killed a fox infront of Philip and shoved the dead fox in his face, just to laugh at it.
- He kidnaps a 14 year old boy for no other reason than to fulfill the aforementioned desires that Philip once filled.
- He also tries to pin the whole kidnapping on Philip.
- After Philip has a small breakdown in front of Maurice, his response was to give Philip a piece of drugged candy. Causing Philip to feel extremely unwell and dazed.
- He is nothing but manipulative and controlling towards Philip, not even allowing him to access a certain room in his own home. This certain room, being the same room where Maurice keeps the boy he kidnapped.
- Once Philip does access this room, Maurice jumps out at him, tackling him to the ground and proceeding to stick his filthy fingers down Philip's throat. Afterwards, he takes off Philip's belt and proceeds to sadistically beat him with it, all while taunting him and finally letting him know that it was infact Maurice, himself, that sexually abused Philip all of those years ago.
- Although, it seems as if Maurice has some care for Philip, as he shows some affability towards him. This is nothing but a façade, just to make Philip feel comfortable around him so he can continue abusing him.
Trivia[]
- During production, Alun Armstrong and Sean Harris (who played Philip), were purposely prohibited from interacting with each other off-set so as to make the interactions between Philip and Maurice appear more cold and disoriented.
