Martin Keamy is an antagonist in Season 4 of the ABC series Lost. He is a mercenary hired by Charles Widmore to locate the island, capture Benjamin Linus, and kill everyone else.

He was portrayed by Kevin Durand, who also played Proximus Caesar in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • As a Marine, he engaged in black ops work in Uganda where he's implied to have committed war crimes.
  • He intends to kill everyone on the island due to the large amount of money Widmore is offering him.
  • He at first appears friendly to Desmond and Sayid when they arrive on the freighter, but then locks Desmond in the sickbay, and when Sayid tries to help him, Keamy returns and assaults them, before locking them both in and confiscating their phone.
  • He leads an assault on the island, killing Karl and Danielle before kidnapping Ben's adoptive daughter Alex.
  • He attacks the barracks, killing several survivors and blowing up Claire's house before ordering Ben to surrender, threatening to kill Alex. When Ben tries to resist Keamy's threats, Keamy sadistically shoots Alex dead right in front of him.
  • He threatens Captain Gault at gunpoint, accusing him of being a spy. When he learns that the spy is Michael, he tortures him for information, then tries to shoot him dead against Gault's orders, but his gun jams.
  • He assaults Gault and steals his protocol key so he can access secret orders, then states that he's going to "torch the island" which horrifies Gault.
  • He stages a mutiny to force Frank to fly his team back to the island, murdering the ship's doctor by slitting his throat, then shoots Captain Gault dead when he tries to stop him. He threatens to kill more people until Frank complies, then handcuffs Frank to the helicopter once on the island to keep him from interfering.
  • He assaults Ben even after he surrendered, and taunts him by asking why he's so important and why Widmore would pay him so much money to take Ben alive.
  • He holds Kate at gunpoint and takes her hostage, then leads his team in a gunfight against the Others who want to rescue Ben, and shows no remorse when he accidentally kills his loyal subordinate Omar by kicking a live grenade over to him.
  • He has a vicious fight with Sayid, nearly choking him to death with a tree branch before being shot by Richard.
  • He reveals that he's rigged the freighter with a bomb that will go off in the event of his death, being willing to kill his own allies just so he can take as many people with him as possible. He then taunts Ben by gloating about how Alex looked when he killed her, provoking Ben into killing him anyway.

Trivia[]

  • To help drive the point of Martin Keamy being Pure Evil home, the Lost writers deliberately wrote him as an undoubtedly evil character with zero redeeming qualities, with even Michael Emerson feeling grateful that his character Benjamin Linus looked like a saint when compared to Keamy.
  • Despite being Pure Evil, Martin Keamy was considered by his actor Kevin Durand as a soldier who just came to the island to kill the protagonists under the orders of Charles Widmore in order to avoid his family from being threatened by Widmore. He also claimed that Keamy's murder of Alex was partly Ben's fault for not being more willing to negotiate. However, Durand's perception of his character doesn't count unless clearly shown, so this doesn't make Keamy sympathetic.
  • Martin Keamy is, alongside Anthony Cooper, one of the two Lost villains to be Pure Evil.
