The Marshal of Solos is the main antagonist of the Doctor Who serial "The Mutants". He is a representative of the Earth Empire who rules over the planet Solos.
He was portrayed by Paul Whitsun-Jones.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He presides over a system of oppression and exploitation on Solos where the planet is slowly drained of its natural resources while the native Solonians are mistreated and kept segregated from their human overlords.
- Hating the native Solonians, he plots with a scientist named Jaeger to terraform the atmosphere to make Solos uninhabitable for the natives, allowing humanity to colonize it so that he can rule over the colonists. He demonstrates that he cares mostly about eradicating the Solonians when he shuts down Jaeger's research into particle reversal because they would survive.
- When his experiments cause the Solonians to begin prematurely evolving into bipedal insectoids known as Mutts, the Marshal orders all Mutts shot on sight, justifying it by claiming they are vermin which need to be exterminated.
- He enjoys personally hunting and killing Mutts for sport.
- He manipulates the Solonian loyalist Varan into having his son Vorn assassinate an Earth administrator in order to avoid having to grant independence to Solos before framing the independence leader Ky.
- He murders Vorn to cover up his involvement in the assassination before ordering Varan shot as a Mutt.
- He attempts to have the Doctor, Ky, Varan, Stubbs and Cotton gassed to death when he has them cornered.
- He personally leads the slaughter of Varan and his fellow Solonians when they attempt to mount a rebellion, culminating in blowing Varan out into space to suffocate.
- He shoots Stubbs in the back when he attempts to report his crimes to his superiors.
- He has Cotton, Ky and Jo Grant imprisoned in a radiation chamber in order to kill them through radiation poisoning.
