Little Toa, you have not yet begun to see even the barest outlines of my plans. I have schemes within schemes that would boggle your feeble mind. You may counter one, but there are a thousand more of which you know nothing. Even my... setbacks... are planned for, and so I shall win in the end.
~ Teridax boasting his scheme to Vakama and also his most famous quote.

Makuta Teridax is the main antagonist of the BIONICLE franchise.

He is the traitorous leader of the Brotherhood of Makuta, the brother and arch-enemy of Mata Nui, and the once-trusted lieutenant of Makuta Miserix. However, his jealousy towards Mata Nui drove him to overthrow the Great Spirit and rule the Matoran, the people he once swore to protect. He is also responsible for masterminding most of the story's events throughout the series and orchestrating everything behind the scenes to achieve his ultimate goal of overthrowing the Great Spirit and taking over the Matoran Universe.

In the animated films, he was voiced by Lee Tockar, who also played Frieza in Dragon Ball Z Kai Ocean Dub and Zaboera in the 2020 Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai film. When disguised as Turaga Dume, he was voiced by Gerard Plunkett. In the video game adaptation, he was voiced by Sean Schemmel, who also portrayed Conrad in Berserk, Black Doom in Shadow the Hedgehog, Grings Kodai and Cyrus in Pokémon, Goku Black in Dragon Ball Super, and Skonk in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Wants really badly to be respected for what he's done, and is willing to go to extremes to accomplish his goals even he have to condemn numerous lives in order to do so.
  • Claimed about what he was doing is for the greater good of the Matoran Universe while justifying his actions towards the others, in reality he was only doing out of sheer selfishness and jealousy towards Mata Nui.
  • Although he does have a few comedic tendencies, this does not played for any funny moments as his actions were considered dark and serious as he often used his sick "jokes" to provoke his enemies, both emotionally and psychologically.

Main Story[]

  • Betrayed his leader Miserix and blackmailed the rest of the Brotherhood of Makuta members to join him.
  • Had both Gorast and Icarax execute the other Makuta who still sided with Miserix.
  • Ordered Krika and Spiriah to execute Miserix though Krika spared Miserix's life by imprisoning him in Artidax.
  • Kidnapped Turaga Dume and imprisoned him in a Matoran Sphere. He then impersonated his appearance to gain the Matoran's trust. He plotted to put the Matoran into an endless sleep, wipe away their memories, and awaken them so he could convince them he was their rightful leader.
  • Accused the Toa Metru of "killing" Lhikan, causing the Matoran to turn against them and ordered the Vahki to capture them.
  • Infected Mata Nui with a virus, causing him to crash onto Aqua Magna, comatose. This would cause a disaster known as the Great Cataclysm, which resulted in various calamities:
    • This caused Voya Nui to break off of the Southern Continent, killing many beings in the area (including Turaga Jovan) and subjecting the survivors to a dangerous environment.
    • This also damaged The Pit, killing and injuring many, and also allowing the Barraki and other dangerous criminals to escape.
    • Furthermore, this would also result in Mata Nui being on the verge of death, dooming the entire Matoran Universe.
  • Absorbed Nivawk, Nidhiki and Krekka, not only because they failed him, but to empower himself in order to personally confront the Toa Metru himself.
  • Attempted to manipulate Vakama into joining his side and then attempt to murder him after the latter refused.
  • Killed Lhikan who shielded Vakama from his attack.
  • Attempted to kill Vakama after the latter foiled his plan by knocking the Vahi from him.
  • Went to the island of Mata Nui and began to corrupt the native Rahi to do his bidding.
  • Used the Rahi, and later the Bohrok, Bohrok-Kal, and Rahkshi, to terrorize the Matoran. His intent was not only to intimidate them into surrendering, but also to keep them away from Metru Nui.
  • Despite considering his personal Rahkshi as his 'sons', he did not care about their defeats in the hands of the Toa Nuva and Takanuva as he sees them as pawns of taking the Avohkii from Takanuva and all his words to them were pragmatic.
  • Ingrained the Piraka's minds with knowledge of the Mask of Life and tricked them into going to the island of Voya Nui to steal it for him.
  • Taunted the Barraki of their fate of being locked up in the Pit in the first place which caused them to attack him in revenge.
  • Betrayed Takadox by destroying his Tablet of Transit and casted him in an illusion which caused his army of underwater insects to attack him, though he deserves it for his treachery.
    • His action then caused Takadox to become unhinged as he betrayed the rest of the Barraki near the end of the Mahri Nui arc and decided to conquer the Matoran Universe himself.
  • Despite not being abusive towards his own brethren, he actually saw them as the means to an end for his ultimate goal and doesn't care about their eventual fates. He was also willing to have the rest of the Makuta to be eliminated in the war between the heroes and the Brotherhood.
  • Was willing to annihilate his brothers in the Brotherhood of Makuta. He sent them to Karda Nui to build an army of Shadow Matoran, but he knew that Karda Nui would be engulfed in a raging storm when Mata Nui awoke, and anyone and anything inside this storm would die in it, out of being afraid they might rebel against him in the way he had rebelled against Mata Nui, and he didn't want to be usurped.
  • Destroyed the island Daxia, killing many members of the Order of Mata Nui.
  • Destroyed Brutaka's Olmak in order to prevent the latter, Helryx, the Toa Hagah, Keetongu and Miserix from leaving the Core Processor.
  • Trapped Miserix in the form of a painting, not just to mock him but to make him watch him take over the universe before making a plan to possibly torture him to death later.
  • Trapped the Toa Hagah in an illusion of them believing that they have defeated him just to get them out of his way.
  • Kept Helryx as his prisoner and attempt to manipulate her into helping his cause.
    • His action also caused Helryx to use her Nova Blast to destroy the Core Processor which he was in in order to prevent him from conquering other universes even though this also condemned everyone else's lives and she would have done that if she was not stopped by Tuyet, Tren Krom and Brutaka.
  • Killed Guardian by pulling him under the ground with the stone.
  • Casted Miserix, Helryx, Artakha, Axonn, Brutaka, Tuyet, and two unnamed Matoran out into space.
  • Rejected Mata Nui's offer to join forces to restore Spherus Magna, choosing to kill him instead.
  • Scattered the Golden Armor across Bara Magna to prevent Tahu from using it.
  • Attempted to use gravitational power to crush Bara Magna, which would've killed countless lives had Mata Nui not reversed his attack.
    • This proved that Teridax was beyond redemption as he was willing to destroy the entire planet along with Mata Nui and even himself, showing that he was willing to forfeit his own life out of spite towards his brother.
  • Although his death was brutal and ironic, his fate was not played for sympathy but rather both karmic and deserving for all his atrocities he committed throughout the story. This shown that he once degraded himself from a once dutiful and noble hero into a power-hungry, irredeemable and egotistical monster he was now.
  • Despite his permanent death, his actions still haunted the denizens who were now living in Spherus Magna as Velika began to eliminate the power beings by killing both Karzahni (though he deserved it for his cruelty towards the Matoran in his realm) and Tren Krom and attempting to kill all the Toa and Glatorian before he was stopped once and for all.

The Kingdom[]

  • In the alternate Matoran Universe where Matoro failed to save Mata Nui in time which resulted Mata Nui's death which caused several regions to be destroyed, forcing everyone else to evacuate to the island of Mata Nui to build a new society there, Teridax began to kill and consume every Makuta; started off by killing Icarax and took over his body before going in his killing spree of consuming every Makuta in order to become more powerful in order invade Mata Nui.
    • His action also caused Matoro to both become a pariah and an outcast as he forced to isolate himself from the others due to his failure.
  • Later found his way into Mata Nui and granted the Rahkshi the power of darkness, causing them to attack the denizens.
  • Killed Toa Tanma by shattering him with his shattering power.
  • Absorbed Matoro into his body though the latter deliberately allowed himself to be absorbed into his body and defeated him by destroying his mind, resulting both of their deaths. However, Teridax still deserved for all his wicked actions even though his death was horrific.

Trivia[]

  • Along with Kalmaar, General Vex, The Omega and Meca One, he is one of the only five LEGO Pure Evils.
    • He is also the only BIONICLE Pure Evil, although franchise has some other potential candidates.
    • Makuta is the first LEGO Pure Evil.
  • Teridax's counterpart in Dark Mirror does not count as Pure Evil due to Tuyet taking over the Matoran Universe before he ever have the chance to overthrow Mata Nui.
