The Lunatic Cultist is the main antagonist of the well known sandbox game Terraria. He is an obsessive cultist hell-bent on resurrecting the ancient god Cthulhu in order to bring upon the apocalypse and eventual end of the world.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is a fanatical cultist who attempted to resurrect the ancient god that is Cthulhu in order to reign chaos across the world and bring it to its eventual end.
- He is responsible for the creation of the Mech Bosses, as he along with the other cultists kidnapped the Mechanic and forced her to build them as cybernetic replacements for Cthulhu.
- He is responsible for bringing the curse upon the dungeon, killing all known life inside and reducing it to an undead wasteland.
- This is also where he kept the Mechanic while she worked on recreating Cthulhu, showing that he had no qualms with putting her in a life threatening situation for the sake of his own goals.
- When the player came in and stopped the ritual to resurrect Cthulhu, he battled the player and attempted to murder them using magic spells.
- While he is rather flat in character, he still exhibits traits such as obsession due to being a fanatical cultist, sadism as he laughs during his battle, and being rather intelligent as seen by the way he uses his spells during the fight.
- These traits, while small, allow him to just push past being a Generic Doomsday Villain, and being Insufficiently Characterized.
Trivia[]
- During his original conception, the Lunatic Cultist was the complete opposite of what he is now, with him instead being a well intentioned extremist trying to abolish Cthulhu, however, later down the line, this was retconned in exchange for a character who was working to summon the ancient deity instead.
- He is the only Terraria villain to be Pure Evil.
