Jacob van Neck, better known as Lord Hastings, is the leader of the United India company and the secondary antagonist of The Order 1886.
Biography[]
Hastings is the head of the United India Company and an ally of the knights of the round table, or simply the order, whom they are also charged with protecting. Little do they know that he is actually a bloodthirsty and power hungry vampire, who is the true source of the half-breed scourge, alongside his partner, Sir Lucan, as Galahad eventually discovers after his mentor Sir Percival Sebastien Mallory's death protecting Hastings from the rebels.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Is a vampire who kills and feeds off of people.
- Is the legendary serial killer known as Jack the Ripper, who brutally mutilated (and possibly raped and/or ate) at least 5 prostitutes in the whitechapel area.
- Historically there were 11 known whitechapel murders, possibly committed by the same person.
- Along with his partner Lucan, he is the source of the half-breed scourge all across london which claimed countless lives, and plans on expanding it to the Americas.
- He is indirectly the reason the rebels are fighting in the streets as their ultimate goal is to stop Hastings and the United India Company.
- Is allied with the Knights of the Round Table for the purpose of keeping them oblivious to his true nature, and to use them for protection from the rebels.
- This, combined with him indirectly provoking the rebels to begin with, make indirectly responsible for Sir Percival Sebastien Mallory's death later on, as he died aboard the Agamemnon while protecting him from the rebels.
- Feeds off of and kills rebel leader Lakshmi's colleague Finley, and gleefully admits to being Jack the Ripper in the process.
- Attempts to kill Galahad, then frames him as a traitor to the order, resulting in him being sentenced to death and brutally tortured (though he escapes).
- Unlike his partner Lucan, who is a genuinely well intentioned extremist who simply wants his kind to survive, there is no indication that Hastings shares any of these goals and simply seems to want power and to kill and feed off of people for his own amusement.
