“ | You call me liar? It is Odin who lies! How long did he keep the truth from us, brother? It is Odin who slew my true father and stole me as a child only to treat me like a lesser being! But I am not a lesser being. Not anymore. The Odinforce is mine. And all the Nine Realms will bow down to me. Asgard, Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, Alfheim, Nidavellir, I have conquered them all. Jotunheim and Niflheim are mine to command. Only Midgard remains, and there's no one left to save it. | „ |
~ Loki's motive rant to Thor. |
Loki Laufeyson is one of the main antagonists of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, serving as the main antagonist of Season 1 and a major antagonist of Season 2.
He is the God of Mischief and archnemesis of his adoptive brother Thor, son of Laufey and adoptive son of Odin. He seeks to rule the universe and destroy his brother Thor, and is one of the Avengers' most prominent enemies, being the very reason of their formation.
He was voiced by Graham McTavish, who also played Zoran Lazarević in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Joseph Bertrand III in inFAMOUS 2 and Dromos in Lucifer.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- In his debut episode, he sends the Wrecking Crew to steal a gamma energy emitter and distract Thor while he leads an army of Frost Giants to destroy Asgard. Although the assault on Asgard was meant to fail, a fair few mortal police officers and Asgardian soldiers still died during the two battles.
- In Hulk Vs. Thor, he brainwashed the Hulk and had him go on a rampage in Asgard after having Amora take Banner out of him, and killed Banner for trying to warn him about what the hulk was able to do. What makes this worse is that he clearly took sadistic pleasure in seeing Hulk beat Thor to near death, and while he did send The Frost Giants to kill Hulk and helped Thor get Banner's soul back from Hela, this was obviously to save himself and not for the greater good of Asgard.
- In his trial for judgement, Loki is delusional when he told Odin that he was never his father as well calling the Allfather as a "King of fools. of arrogance, of weakness and betrayal" as well claimed that he will laugh of witnessing Asgard's destruction and seeing Odin and Thor in chains. This insolence caused Odin to announce Loki's banishment to the Isle of Silence where nobody will suffer through his lies and deceptions.
- He and Enchantress deliberately started the Breakout to keep Thor distracted on Earth, releasing 75 supervillains from four supermax prisons and thus forming the Avengers after they defeat Graviton. Therefore, every single disastrous event that doesn't involve Ultron, Kang, or someone from outer space throughout the series is entirely Loki's fault.
- He even had Enchantress form the Masters of Evil in an attempt to conquer Earth with some of those villains, including Baron Zemo.
- To add on to this, the breakout was the original catalyst for Ant-Man improving the AI of Ultron, which makes him one of the three villains (alongside Kang and the Supreme Intelligence) indirectly responsible for Ultron almost destroying all life on earth.
- He resurrected Malekith the Accursed (leader of the Dark Elves) to do his bidding but only to be betrayed by the Dark Elf. Although this is offscreen villainy and what happened next wasn't really his intention, this action still nearly doomed all of humanity to be destroyed by the undead Dark Elves using the Casket of Ancient Winters.
- While Thor stayed on Earth throughout season 1, Loki successfully conquered half of the Nine Realms during the Odinsleep, which includes:
- Having dozens of innocent villagers rounded up on Vanaheim alongside the Warriors Three, likely to be executed back on Asgard.
- Assaulting Alfheim with wolves, which Faradei mentions killed his Lord Fray.
- Sending the ogre Ulik to Nidavellir, killing countless dwarves (two onscreen) and nearly doing the same to Iron Man as he cuts out his own arc reactor.
- He displays clear sadism twice:
- Torturing his own adoptive brother Thor once he returns to Asgard, locking him in a stockade while pouring wine on his face and then blasting him with the Odinforce just to keep him barely conscious as he gloats about how he's basically already won. He also plans to behead him alongside Balder and Heimdall.
- Stabbing and exploding Captain America's shield into multiple shards just to break his spirit, before trying to execute him and the rest of the heroes.
- He doesn't care whatsoever and even screams "so be it" when he starts losing control of the Odinforce, which would begin Ragnarok and thus destroy all of the Nine Realms all out of petty spite.
- It's implied he would have killed The Enchantress for her failure of the Norn Stone plan as judging by what she says before Zemo knocks her out.
- When he returns in season 2, he takes away Iron Man, Thor and Captain America's powers, which could have led to them getting severely injured or killed by the Wrecking Crew, then trying to kill them and Hawkeye from within the Destroyer Armor while they're near-totally defenseless out of pure spite. He even states his plan to destroy Earth and conquer Asgard with the armor once he's done here.
- Additionally, he even injures the Wrecking Crew when he first shows himself to the Avengers despite the fact that they could have helped him, showing that he has no care for even villains.
- Although he was once Thor's beloved brother and it's even mentioned at one point that Odin slew Loki's true father and stole him as a child only to treat him like a lesser being alongside him being genuinely heroic in Thor: Tales Of Asgard, his petty sadism and omnicidal tendencies far outweigh the tragedy and his heroism. Not to mention he's given multiple shots at redemption but shoots them all down out of petty spite towards Thor. His fate of being sent to the Midgard Serpent, while disturbing, isn't played for sympathy.
- Although it is stated that Loki never dared to use the Norn Stone connected to Muspelheim as doing so would risk destroying all of the Nine Realms, this isn't out of standards but out of pragmatism and fear of Surtur as he himself would attempt to destroy the all Nine Realms anyways, making him a hypocrite.
Trivia[]
- This is the only version of Loki to be Pure Evil, as most versions of the character are tragic and/or on & off making him the most evil version of the character.
- Although Loki was already heinous enough before the show's cancellation at the end of Season 2, Christopher Yost previously discussed his plans for Season 3 on Twitter back in 2020, stating that Loki was going to help Surtur in his goal to bring forth Ragnarok. If these drafts for Season 3 were to be officially released today, it would've made Loki even worse.
