Lockdown is the secondary antagonist of the 2014 film Transformers: Age of Extinction, the fourth installment of the original continuity of the Transformers live-action film series.
He is a ruthless and cold-blooded bounty hunter unaligned with the Autobots and Decepticons, deeming himself superior to them. When hired to capture Optimus Prime so that the Cybertronian race could be restarted from scratch, Lockdown allies with the greedy Harold Attinger in order to do so.
He was voiced by Mark Ryan.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- During his various hunts, he butchered hundreds of Cybertronians across the galaxy before taking their mutilated corpses as trophies, raking up one of the highest first-hand kill counts in the original continuity of the film series.
- He arrogantly believes he is above the Autobots and Decepticons, participates in a genocide against his own race, and goes to Earth to capture Optimus Prime so his employer(s) (who could be either the Creators or Quintessa) can begin their/her plans to wipe out the Cybertronians and restart from scratch.
- In order to capture Optimus Prime, he partnered up with Harold Attinger and personally participated in his genocidal campaign against all Cybertronian life on Earth, teaming up with Attinger's right-hand man James Savoy to kill legions of Autobots and Decepticons alike with Cemetery Wind.
- He does all this with the knowledge Attinger will desecrate their corpses to make synthesized slaves out of greed, and Lockdown was heavily implied to be reason why Attinger was so successful in his xenophobic campaign. After Optimus escaped, Harold allowed Lockdown to do whatever he has to do.
- He shot down a bested Ratchet, who was trying to reason with Cemetery Wind, before cornering him while he was weakened and helpless and then brutally extract his spark to kill him, taking it as his trophy and use that spark to give Cemetery Wind Optimus Prime's location since sparks contain a Cybertronian's memories and feelings.
- He attacked the Yeager household and horribly murdered Cade's friend Lucas by using a grenade that fries his skin off.
- Upon capturing Optimus Prime with the teenage Tessa Yeager, he had the latter taken to the Knight Ship's dump to be torn apart and disposed of.
- When Optimus Prime escaped with his trophy case, Lockdown deemed it personal, so he returned to Earth and layed death and destruction across Hong Kong that caused massive collateral damage which he was permitted by Harold Attinger.
- He has no care for his crew; he was never sad, concerned, nor angry when all of his Steeljaws and Shadow Raiders, as well as the crew that takes care of his ship (including the drones that tried do tear Tessa apart) were all killed by the explosions that caused the Knight Ship to fly out of control before his final battle with Optimus.
- He attempted to kill Cade and all the Autobots present before Optimus finally kills him for good, making his death well-deserved for his vile actions.
- His destructive actions, along with Attinger's, would cause the relations between humans and Cybertronians to deteriorate even further, as even after Attinger's crimes were exposed and Cemetery Wind was shut down for it's crimes, the Battle of Hong Kong led to the world leaders deem all Cybertronians illegal and fund the anti-Cybertronian organization Transformers Reaction Force (or TRF for short) to capture or kill any Cybertronian spotted on Earth and would keep doing it until an alliance with the Autobots to save Earth from Quintessa would make it's field commander Santos realize the error of the organization's ways and amend the relations once and for all.
Trivia[]
- Only the film version of Lockdown can be considered Pure Evil, while his original IDW comic version can't because he was brainwashed by the Initiative to serve as their puppet during the events of Transformers: Nefarious, thus giving him moral agency issues. Not to mention that he was not shown doing anything horrendous aside from the generic "kill the heroes" villainy, making him bog-standard.
- Because of this, both he and the Snyder Cut version of Darkseid are two peculiar cases of Preserved Pure Evil villains that are considered as such in the non-original version of the work they appear: all the other Preserved Pure Evils on this wiki comes from the original version of the works.
- Had the series ended in Transformers: Dark of the Moon as originally planned, then this version of Lockdown would never be considered Pure Evil, as it was in Transformers: Age of Extinction that he was able to stand out.
- This is, alongside his Animated incarnation, one of two incarnations of Lockdown to be Pure Evil.
- Lockdown is the only original film series pure evil to not associate with either the Autobots or Decepticons.
