Lloyd Bailey is the main antagonist of the Land of Stories book series. He is the psychopathic uncle of Alex and Connor Bailey who is obsessed with obtaining power.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Lloyd is easily one of the most, if not the most, heinous characters in the series, and caused one of the highest amount of destruction recorded for a villain. In addition, he was able to succeed in his plans, although briefly.
    • While Seven and Ezmia has also attempted to do the same things as him, they at least have sympathetic pasts that (somewhat) justify their actions, while Lloyd was evil from the start.
  • While he could be considered tragic for having a brother who was better than him in every way, and losing his magic to his mother, this does not justify any of his means, as he was deranged before then, and even if it was played sympathetically, his actions go far beyond this backstory in every way.
  • He is loathed by every character he was ever acquainted with, good or evil.

Past[]

  • As a child, he had already developed psychopathic tendencies, as he frequently imprisoned animals and trapped them in jars until they died. He also neglected to set a moth free when asked to do so.
  • His obsession with world domination was a lifelong dream to the extent that the Hall of Dreams depicted his greatest desire as him as king amongst destruction with his mother killed.
    • Although his mother favoured John over him, his dream was too graphic to make this a justifiable reason for it and went way overboard.
  • He wooed Bo Peep with love potions, and then tried to make her challenge the throne of the Red Riding Hood Kingdom, so he could hold indirect control over the kingdom and didn't truly love Bo Peep.
  • When he grew impatient with his plans, he tried directly to steal the Portal Potion from his mother, which got him caught and imprisoned, gaining him the signature mask he is known for.

A Grimm Warning[]

  • He manipulated General Jacques Marquis to release him so that he could find the dragon egg.
  • While Marquis and the French soldiers treated him badly and even had him killed multiple times, it isn't played for sympathy at all.
  • Due to the resources necessary for raising dragons, he indirectly caused the French to raid three villages in the Eastern Kingdom, which caused two villages to be taken as slaves and their animals taken as dragon feed. The third village, on the other hand, was essentially massacred for standing up, causing the death of everyone save for one.
  • When he at last raised the dragon to adulthood, the first thing he did with it was to betray Marquis, and incinerate him to death with it. Although Marquis 100% deserved it, it is still considered treachery on Lloyd's part.
  • Although Bo Peep tried to negotiate with him, still falsely believing him to be a good person, he revealed his true colours by trying to kill everybody there with his dragon which indirectly caused Bo Peep's death and the deaths of numerous innocents like Gator.
  • After his defeat, he broke into the palace to steal the Portal Potion which made Alex think he was her deceased father due to their similar appearances causing her immense emotional distress, something Lloyd found amusing.

Beyond the Kingdoms[]

  • He made a speech with the intent to rouse the witches into attacking the fairies.
  • He used the Portal Potion to recruit three literary villains and their armies. He also recruited mythological characters, as shown by Medusa being sent to the Land of Stories and being used to turn many innocents to stone.
  • When he was discovered by his niece and nephew, he immediately split them up, sending them to King Arthur and Robin Hood's worlds and tried to trap them there forever.
  • Upon returning to the Land of Stories, he immediately used his new army to wreak havoc across the kingdoms, conquering them, and taking the royals prisoner. He also oversaw the Fairy Kingdom's destruction and the poisoning of Mermaid Bay.

An Author's Odyssey[]

  • During the speech announcing the formation of his empire, he ordered the execution of all the former royals of the world, including the children Hope and Ash, just so he could please the Queen of Hearts.
  • He concentrated most of the citizens of the Land of Stories in the dried-up Swan Lake, stripped them of their rights, denounced them as property of his empire rather than people and put them to work, threatening them with the death of their loved ones if they stepped out of line.
  • Sadistically laughed at the mayhem he caused by the execution of the royals.
  • Strangled Mr. Smee and used him as a scapegoat.
  • After being overthrown by his minions, he decided to resort to try to kidnap his own son Emmerich so he could drain his blood in an attempt to restore his magic, something that would be incredibly painful and potentially even deadly for him.
  • Upon his return to the Otherworld, he immediately threatened Bree Campbell and the Sisters Grimm to follow his orders to find the twins at gunpoint
  • He took Goldilocks hostage so he could have leverage due to her pregnancy, and also took Charlotte (his sister-in-law) so she could perform the blood transfusion.
  • Tried to kill Charlotte after she put a sedative in his body.
  • Attempted to kill Conner, even saying "Give my regards to your father" before trying to do so, only stopped by the undead historical figures awakening.
  • He cowardly fled from Bo Peep when he saw her reanimated.
  • Although his death was brutal, it is played 100% for satisfaction, especially confirmed by the words on his headstone which were "HERE LIES LLOYD BAILEY. LOVED BY NOBODY."

Legacy[]

  • His legacy was so bad, he caused Emmerich and his adoptive mother to flee to Australia.
  • He was responsible for the oppression the literary villains held over the Land of Stories and indirectly responsible their later attack on the Otherworld.
