Lieutenant Rebecca Obsidian (Lt. Obsidian for short) is the main antagonist of the Inkopolis Chaos trilogy.
She serves as the unseen overarching antagonist of Inkopolis Chaos 1, one of two unseen overarching antagonists (alongside Sub Lieutenant Blakeson) of Inkopolis Chaos 2, and the main antagonist of Inkopolis Chaos 3. She is the new leader of the octarians, who has a deep hatred for inklings, and wishes to wipe them out for good, along with all the octolings that joined them.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- While she had a tragic backstory (i.e., at young was constantly bullied by other octolings for having white eyes which caused her to run to Inkopolis, only to be rejected), it doesn’t hold up due to the fact that she seems more overly motivated by revenge and a desperation for power to boost her ego. That, and considering she lies about parts of her backstory by leaving parts out to make herself sound morally righteous., which she is called out on, and also called out later in universe by Natalie, who went through a similar experience to her, yet she never ended up like Obsidian.
- In the short story “An Octolings Remorse”, she told Lilith to hunt down her sister, Bella, and even suggested handing Bella over to her so she could torture her for deserting. When Lilith gets to the surface, she is still unaware that she deserted, so she contacts Lilith asking if she found her, causing Lilith to smash her phone to finally get away from her.
- She ended up so feared that the other lieutenants gave her more power, making her the new leader of the octarians.
- She was an even worse leader than DJ Octavio. Just like him, she brainwashed everyone, but unlike him, she was way more murderous and brutal, and showed no concern for her people, even her most loyal followers.
- She regularly abuses her allies, from insulting them, firing them to outright killing them. In fact, she even tells Blakeson she doesn’t care if she indirectly kills her own.
- She made a deal with Commander Tartar, offering him octolings to send into the metro tests to be blended. She knew that Tartar was trying to destroy Inkopolis, so she helped him with gathering octolings/octarians to be blended/sanitized. This also makes her responsible for the deaths of countless octolings, including Georgina Octarine.
- She tried to draft Natalie into her army, and sometime after Natalie deserted, she tried to force Dylan to hunt her down and kill her, causing Dylan to desert as well.
- She kidnapped Cap’n Cuttlefish, Callie, Marie and Bethany, and held them hostage for an unknown reason. It’s unknown why she didn’t kill them instantly, but it can be assumed that she wanted to make them suffer.
- She enforced concentration camps for octolings who betrayed her, and any inklings she captured. She forced them to do hard work, and if they didn’t work hard enough, she would have them dissolved in water. Her horrible treatment of her prisoners is also clear, as shown by how they cower in fear if she even looks at them.
- She fired a missile at the heroes at the end of Inkopolis Chaos 2 while they were fighting the octobusters in an attempt to kill them.
- She paid lots of money to break Scarlet out of jail, but once she was out, she murders the prison warden to get her money back.
- She offered Scarlet a chance to kill Samuel, Natalie and the others for money, threatening her with death if she didn’t join her. However, she showed no intent of honoring her deal, as she said she’d throw Scarlet in a concentration camp afterwards, albeit, Scarlet would’ve deserved it.
- She kidnaps Natalie, holds her hostage, and tried to force her watch Samuel be executed.
- When she finds out the two were dating, she bursts out laughing, showing a cruel and racist attitude towards the concept of inklings and octarians tolerating each other's existence, much less being in love, and seeing it as so laughable, it might as well be a joke to her.
- Upon concentration camps failing, she scraps them, and then resorts to executing thousands of octolings who tried to/deserted Octo Valley via dissolving them in water, which is a really horrible way to go. She even executed those who were merely associated with deserters, so she was even killing her own followers for no good reason.
- Once all of them are executed, she even states that next time, she would be mass torturing the octolings to death.
- She unethically experimented on salmonids to have them obey her every command.
- She trespasses into cuttlefish cabin and destroys it in an attempt to kill the Squidbeak Splatoon.
- She takes advantage of Katelin’s PTSD and uses it to neutralize her, sending the latter into a panic attack/mental breakdown.
- When Jade tries to calm her down, she makes homophobic remarks about both of them.
- She intended to destroy all life on the surface with 15 massive multicolored ink bombs, and then rebuild Octo Valley on the surface so she would have perfect control over everything, all because she despises inklings. She would’ve killed innocent species as well, but she just didn’t care. All she cared about was revenge and everything being in her image.
- She forces Natalie to watch the footage of her sister being blended, and laughs at Natalie being upset.
- She throws Jade into a flooded ravine, causing Ruby to sacrifice herself, making her the only villain responsible for the death of a protagonist. Later on, she mocks it as an adorably hopeless gesture.
- When Natalie points out she had no excuse for what she did, she strangles her and tries to kill both her and Samuel, and almost succeeds before getting hit by a curling bomb by surprise.
- Although she does accept her death, it is not mitigating in anyway, as she showed no remorse or regret for her actions.
- When Summer last mentions her name to DJ Octavio, he yells to not mention her name, possibly showing that even he has a strong distaste for her actions.
- Overall, Lieutenant Obsidian is a delusional, heartless, cruel octoling who has no regard for anyone except herself. She thinks that all her actions are justified, no matter how horrible or sadistic. She lacks any redeeming qualities, or care for anyone. Her attempted destruction of all life on the surface, her reign of terror over Octo Valley, her very high body count and everything else she has done solidifies her as the most evil villain in the entire Inkopolis Chaos Trilogy.

- She, alongside Scarlet Spiker, are the only Inkopolis Chaos villains to be Pure Evil.
