Lex Luthor is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Doctor Octopus) of the 1976 crossover superhero comic book Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.
He is the respective archenemy (and former best friend) of Superman who has been trying to defeat him for many years and will go to great lengths just to destroy him for good.
Recently, he had teamed up with Doctor Octopus in hopes of defeating their respective archenemies in one go while plotting to use a programming circuit he stole to kickstart a series of natural disasters that put countless lives at risk.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He spent years trying to defeat Superman countless times through his inventions, mainly due to a freak accident that cost him permanent hair loss and his life's work destroyed, which Superman unintentionally did so out of the blue.
- Furthermore, this excuse is never portrayed in a sympathetic light as Luthor took it too personally to the point he held a petty grudge against Superman. The latter even offered to reconcile with him, Luthor's response was to taunt his "old friend" rather than being touched by his words. It's clear that Luthor isn't interested in burying the hatchet but rather kill the Man of Steel due to his shattered ego.
- His partnership with Doctor Octopus comes off as superficial and out of common interest to destroy their greatest enemies despite working together. Eventually, Luthor ended up turning against him when Doc Ock betrayed him out of standards for the former trying to destroy the Earth.
- He piloted a giant robot and went on destroying parts of Metropolis, endangering several people while making his way to S.T.A.R. Labs to steal a programming circuit device, which he'd use for his later plans.
- He lured Superman underwater into a trap and began attacking him with lasers prior to being outwitted.
- Upon teaming up with Doctor Octopus to destroy their respective archenemies, Superman and Spider-Man, he broke out of prison along with the latter by using sonic disrupters to knock out the security guards.
- He and Doc Ock disguised themselves as Superman and Spider-Man to set the two heroes up to be against each other's throats and tricked them into fighting one another by kidnapping Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson.
- Booby-trapped an entire shed house within a railroad yard, knowing Superman and Spider-Man would come after them, only for the attempt to fail as Spider-Man used his sense to set off most of the traps that could've killed or injured the duo.
- Brainwashed an African Tribesman to act as his bodyguard for one of the headquarters he had in Mt. Kilimanjaro, even granting him superhuman strength to fight back.
- He used the programming circuit to manipulate the Comlab satellite into shooting down a laser onto Earth's atmosphere, causing a chain reaction that slewed a series of natural disasters such as a massing hurricane that stormed through Metropolis, Midwest, New Orleans, St. Loius, and Chicago, and later a 200-mile tidal wave that could've washed out the entirety of the (East) Atlantic Coast such as New York City, Boston, and Washington. He then later demanded a ransom of ten billion dollars from the US Government, otherwise, he'd continue to let the hurricane advance until the chain reaction would round up destroying the entire Earth wholly if it meant getting revenge on Superman.
- Knocked out Superman and Spider-Man to prevent them from stopping his plans and tries to kill them both alongside Doc Ock, while at the same time, preventing them from stopping the disasters from going forth.
- When Doc Ock betrayed him and destroyed the circuit, he tries to crush him to death while boasting he'll still have some form of victory as he watched and allowed the tidal wave to hit the Atlantic Coast prior to his defeat and failed attempt.
